Green Roof Action Project 綠頂行動 – Content of Stages

1. Stage One – Feasibility Stage:

Investigate and evaluate the possibility to install sustainable features and greenings on existing roof tops of schools.

2. Stage Two – Implementation Stage:

Design and propose schemes of implementation; construct with participation of students to ensure knowledge of sustainability is disseminated.

3. Stage Three – Maintenance Stage:

Monitor the usage of newly implemented ‘Green Roofs’ through bi-weekly visit and record any findings in report format.

Green Roof Action Project綠頂行動 - Responsibilities

Advisory Group1. Providing technical advises; 2. Commenting the direction of project progress; 3. Suggesting samples of inspirations;

Steering Committee1. Setting out guidelines and benchmarking the quality of deliverables with the guidelines;2. Drafting questionnaires to gather information from the schools and creating templates of reports; 3. Maintaining and enhancing a good communication between advisory group and team leaders[Chair of the steering committee should also be the leader of the entire project team]

Team Leaders1. Leading site visits and surveys; 2. Drafting plan and schedule of works;3. Ensuring feasibility reports are prepared in according to guidelines set by the steering committee; 4. Reporting latest progress of study to steering committee[Team leaders should be experienced in practical terms and be able to lead a feasibility study team consists of various professionals]

Team Members[Site surveying and researching for all relevant information; preparing reports and / or materials for presentations – include questionnaires, SWOT analysis, drawings preparation, drafting of reports for steering committee to comment]Each should include the following team members:

• Architect• Structural Engineer• Service Engineer• Quantity Surveyor• Landscape Architect• 2-3 technical supports

1. Background information- site location

- building type- size of the roof areas

2. Physical survey reports- condition of existing structure

- constraints and opportunities for installation of renewal energy equipments

- spaces for installation of surveying equipments- assessment of structural strength for the required

increasing of roof loading

3. Desktop study of existing structure

4. Observation and Questionnaires- details of adjoining buildings / sites;- location for works & storage;- timetable for classes in schools;- most appropriate time slot for works;- logistic;- environment for organic cultivation

5. Way Forward- Viability of installations- Recommendation of the most feasible options with different sizes, scopes, and positions

- Recommendation of logistic arrangements

Green Roof Action Project綠頂行動 – Schedule of Works

July 2008 – Funding approval received.

Early August 2008 – Complete the formation of Steering Group and Research Teams.

Mid August 2008 – Visiting St. Bonaventure Catholic Primary School (Exact date TBC)

Early September 2008 – A seminar about ‘Green Roofs’

Mid September 2008 – Research begins: arrange to visit schools

Late September 2008 – Prepare application for second stage funding from ECF

Late November 2008 – Completion of Feasibility Reports for final checking

05th December 2008 – Submission of Feasibility Reports to ECF(See Appendix A for more details about the key dates of activities)

Green Roof Action Project綠頂行動 – Honorariums & Rewards

All participated architects will be rewarded with 5 CPD hours accredited by HKIA. HK Architecture Centre can award participants with certificates of acknowledgement.

Each professional participant with chartered / registered qualification will be rewarded with HK$450 per hour per person honorarium capped with 5-hour works for each school.

Each technical support and / or graduated participant will be rewarded with HK$250 per hour per person honorarium capped with a total of 30-hour works for each school. Meaning, if there is three technical supports working on one school, each person’s working hours should not exceed 10 hours.

We are also welcoming volunteers to help us in this project, Commendation Awards could be presented to volunteers.
