    Procedure (TCLP)

What is TCLP?Toxicity Characteristic Leaching Procedure (TCLP) is designedto determine the mobility of both organic and inorganiccompounds present in liquid, solid as well as multiphasicsamples.

It is a method that simulates what happens when a sample isdisposed in a landfill and is utilized to determine whether thecontaminated soil meet the EPD landfill disposal guideline.

Why using TCLP analysis?Since direct disposal of contaminated soil to landfill is notallowed and it must be qualified the Landfill Disposal Criteriaprior to disposal. TCLP is one of EPD approved method usedto assess the soil contamination concentration. If any TCLPtest results of the sample exceed the disposal criteria, thecontaminated soil must first be pre-treated or stabilizedbefore disposal.

TCLP ProcessThe TCLP analysis begins by determining the amount of solidsin the sample. If the sample is a liquid waste that contains0.5% dry solid material, the sample itself is defined as TCLPextract.

On the other hand, if the sample contains 0.5% dry solid, theliquid portion of the sample is separated from the solid phaseand stored for later analysis. The remaining solid phasesample will undergo treatment in order to make sure everyparticle is
