背诵是公认的有效学习方法之一。 著名文学家巴金曾经说
过:“我是读了几百篇古文能够背诵,就开始写起文章来。”世界上
的文坛巨擘之所以创作出许许多多脍炙人口、流芳百世的诗文佳
作,主要是因为他们锲而不舍、坚持不懈地背诵了大量文质兼美
的范文。背诵范文对于外语学习尤其大有裨益。 背诵可以帮助我们
加深对文章的理解,提高阅读理解能力和作品赏析能力;还可以
帮助我们了解文章中用词造句、布局谋篇的内在联系,培养和提
高写作能力、听说能力和翻译能力。 要想学好外语,背诵这种方
法是必不可少的。 背诵的文章多了,在大脑这座仓库里储存的语
言材料就多了,在阅读时,就会自然而然地联想起已接触并背诵
过的词语、句式、结构、篇章,从而有助于我们对新文章的理解和
赏析。 通过背诵,语言材料增多了,知识增加了,理解能力增强
了,听说能力便随之提高了。 在写作和翻译时,也会自然地联想
起并且模仿运用那些已接触并背诵过的词语、句型和表达法,从而有助于提高写作能力和翻译能力。 这个道理显而易见,无数例
子充分证明了这一点。背诵的真正意义还在于它能够锻炼并提高人的记忆力,而记忆
力对于一个人的成长、成才、有所成就实在太重要了。 俄国生理学
家谢切诺夫(1829 1905)说过:“一切智慧的根源就在于记忆。”记忆的品质表现为记忆的敏捷性、准确性、持久性和记忆的
备用性。 人的记忆力的好坏,与本身的遗传天赋固然有关,但主
要靠后天的刻苦锻炼。 训练记忆力的方法许许多多,而背诵范文
就是其中最佳的方法之一。 背诵和记忆语言规范、文辞优美、内

Intheolddayslifewasdifficult.Enemiescouldattackyou
andkillorrobyou,andyouhadlittleprotectionagainstthem.
Peopledidnotlivein well-builthouseswheredoorscouldbe
locked.Theydidnothavetheprotectionofanorganizedpolice
forceortelephoneswhichcouldsummonthepoliceinstantly.
Howdidthisinfluencethewaypeoplefeltabouthome? Small

❶ 家庭观念的变化
许多人在谈到家的时候往往将它和某种气氛、某种环境及内
心的某些情感态度联系在一起。这种对家的依恋情感古已有之,
代代相传。许多现代人不再有了,我认为这是件好事。
在遥远的过去,人们生活十分艰难。敌人可能会攻击你,杀
害你或抢劫你的财富,而你却毫无还手之力。人们并不住在可以
锁门闭户的构造坚固的房子里。他们没有一支有组织的警察队
伍的保护,也不能随时打电话报警。这些怎样影响人们对于家的
感情呢? 小家族的成员紧密团结,聚在一起,共同抵御野兽和敌
人。只有最勇敢的人才敢离开小家族管辖区。甚至在中世纪也
只有最勇敢的人才敢涉足海外。人类对安全的追求决定了人们
对家的热爱。我相信,美国的早期定居者对此一定深有感触。他
们被饥荒、压迫逼得走投无路,只好毅然决然地冒险来到这个举
目无亲、易受印第安人攻击的陌生的地方。甚至今天,我们从少
数民族团体的态度也可以看出这一点。由于缺乏安全感,他们仍
然保持着富有凝聚力的家庭纽带。
今天,由于有了现代交通工具和组织良好的社会,成千上万
的人们愿意并且渴望离开他们出生的环境。而且,他们离家外出
越频繁,对那个环境的情感就可 能 越 少。我 曾 经 在 英 国 待 过 三
年。我注意到孩子们离开父母的家,住进自己的房子。在英国,
他们只需拿起电话,要求一家房地产经销处提供一幢房子或一套
公寓,那就是他们的家了。“家”这个词的意义是如何被这种行为
改变的呢? “家”对于那些经常流动、从一家旅馆搬到另一家旅馆
居住的人或家庭成员又意味着什么呢? 我认为,家对他们来说是

一个离群独处不受干扰的地方。
在我的国家沙特阿拉伯,年轻人放弃父母的家去过他们自己
的生活。这种把“家”作为私人独处之地的看法正在我的国家形
成。我对父母居住之地的气氛、环境没有眷恋的情感。“家”就是
一个我关起门来独处的地方。现在我的家就是伊登宿舍的一个
房间。几年前当我离开父母时,我巴不得快快离开。你也许会觉
得这是无情无义,然而那确实是我的感受。我离家去美国那天,
祖母呜咽,泪 流 不 止。但 我 的 父 亲 却 表 明 他 能 理 解 我 的 心 情。
“孩子,”他说,“我对于你的离去不觉得悲伤。我只希望你能充分
利用时间。”
❷ Three Types of Parents
Itisuniversallytruethatallparentsintheworldlovetheir
children.However,asparents’viewsoflifevary,theyshow
theirloveindifferentways.Generallyspeaking,parentscanbe
classifiedintothreetypes:themonarchtype,theservanttype,
andthefriendtypeaccordingtotheirdifferentwaysofshowingtheirlovefortheirchildren.
The monarch type of
parents are intolerant,
autocratic, and self-
centered. They lay down
regulationsinthefamilyfor
their children to observe.
Furthermore, they insist

thattheirchildrenshouldactuponthemwithoutquestion.When
theirauthorityischallenged,theybecomeinfuriated.Witha
firm beliefintheirown philosophyoflife,theyhavelittle
respectforothers’opinions,leastofall,theirchildren’s.The
sentencetheysay mostfrequentlytotheirchildrenis,“You
shoulddothis.”
Contrary to the monarch-type parents,the servant-type
parentsrevolvearoundtheirchildrenallthetime.Theyaresoft,
good-natured,andeasy-going.Theyneverdenytheirchildren
anywish,andcheerfullyruntobuyanythingtheirchildrenask
for.Theyarehappysolongastheirchildrenarecontent.With
thesincerebeliefthatlovemeanssacrifice,theyarereadyto
giveupanythingfortheirchildren’ssake.Withtheirchildrenat
thecenteroftheirlives,theyalwaysask,“Whatelsecanwedo
foryou?”
Thefriend-typeparents,asthetermimplies,treattheir
childrenasfriends.Theyaregenerousand wise.Likegood
friends,theydiscusswiththeirchildrenthelatestnews,share
theirchildren’sinterests,andlistenattentivelytotheirchildren’s
expressionofemotion,whetheritisanger,fear,joyorsorrow.
Theyhaveanintimaterelationship withtheirchildren while
adheringtotheirprincipledstand.Theydiscussproblemswith
theirchildrenratherthanprovidereadysolutions.Theyrespect
theirchildrenastheirequals.Theyoftensay,“Let’sputour
headstogetherandseewhatwecando.”
Thereisnodoubtthatchildrenwelcomethethirdtypeof
parents,forafree,friendly,andsympatheticatmosphereat

❷ 三种类型的父母
世上的父母都爱自己的孩子,这是条普遍真理。然而,由于
父母的生活观不同,他们爱孩子的方式也不同。一般说来,按照
父母亲表达爱的不同方式,父母亲可以分为三种类型:君主型、奴
仆型和朋友型。

君主型的父母独裁专制,不容异己,总是以自我为中心。他
们在家里立下让孩子遵守的种种规矩。更有甚者,他们硬要孩子
无条件地按规矩行事。当他们的权威受到挑战时,他们会变得愤
怒异常。他们坚信自己的生活哲学,根本不尊重别人的意见,对
自己孩子的意见则更是不屑一顾。他们对孩子最常说的一句话
是:“这事你非做不可。”
与君主型的父母完全相反,奴仆型的父母总是围着孩子团团
转。他们性情温和,心地善良,宽容随和。他们往往迁就孩子,总
是满心欢喜地跑去买孩子要求的任何东西。只要孩子心满意足
他们就感到高兴。他 们 真 诚 地 相 信,爱 就 意 味 着 牺 牲。为 了 孩
子,他们随时准备放弃一切。孩子就是他们生活的中心,他们总
是问,“我们还能为你做些什么呢?”
朋友型的父母,顾名思义,对待孩子就像对待朋友一样。他
们大度又明智。他们像好朋友一样和自己的孩子讨论最近的新
闻,分享孩子的兴趣,仔细倾听孩子情感的表达———无论是愤怒、
恐惧,还是欢乐、悲伤。一方面,他们与孩子亲密无间,另一方面,
他们又坚持自己的原则立场。他们和孩子一起讨论问题,而不是
给孩子提供现成的答案。他们尊重孩子,把孩子当作和自己地位
平等的人对待。他们的口头禅是:“让我们集思广益,看我们能做
些什么。”
毫无疑问,孩子们喜欢第三种类型的父母。自由、友好、和谐
的家庭气氛对孩子的身心发展最为有利。如果父母想让孩子快
乐健康地成长,那他们就应该重新审视自己表 达 关 爱 的 一 些 方
式,并作出相应的调整。
