COURSEWORK:

TASK 1a (Pair Work) : Portfolio (30%)

Work in pairs and collect samples of materials from various literary genres which can be used withprimary school children.

Your portfolio should consist of

2 poems, 2 stories and 2 short plays. Prepare 1 teaching-learning activity that you could use with each one of the materials collected.

TASK 1b (Pair Work) : Justification (20%)

Justify your choice of material and teaching-learning activity based on pedagogical principles. Your justification should not exceed 1000 words.

Outline of the Portfolio:

Selection of materials. Teaching learning activities related to the selected materials.

Essay: Justification for selection of materials and activities

TASK 2: Written Assignment (30%) – 1200 words

Discuss how the use of children’s literature in the primary ESL classroom can help in addressing thesocial issues among children.

Relate your discussion to the National Education Philosophy(NEP) and the primary school curriculum.Your essay should not exceed 1200 words.

This is an individual assessment. You will need to identify the key points and define them. You also need to relate your discussion to the NEP and the primary school curriculum. You need to refer to current research in this area. Analysis should show evidence of critical thinking and relevant examples should be included. Your essay should not exceed 1200 words.
