CURRENT RESEARCH INTERESTS

1. Establishment of a Scleroderma Registry for Rhode Island and Southern New England. Currently following about 7080 patients with scleroderma and using the population base to investigate epidemiologic, clinical, laboratory and therapeutic aspects of this disease.

2. Pulmonary Hypertension in Scleroderma. (In collaboration with James Klinger, MD Division of Pulmonary Medicine, Rhode Island Hospital)

3. Fibrosis and Wound Healing. (In collaboration with Vincent Falanga, MD, Chairman, Department of Dermatology, Roger Williams Medical Center).

4. Interstitial Lung Disease in Scleroderma. (In collaboration with Kevin Dushay, MD, Division of Pulmonary Medicine, Rhode Island Hospital).

5. Granzyme B Levels in Rheumatoid Arthritis. Research project is investigating levels of this serine protease in the serum and synovial fluid of patients with rheumatoid arthritis. The aim of the study is contrast these levels with similar samples from patients with osteoarthritis and other forms of inflammatory arthritis. Furthermore, levels of Granzyme B in patients with rheumatoid arthritis will be correlated with other clinical parameters of their disease. This project is being done in collaboration with Dr. Loren Fast from the Division of Hematology/Oncology.
