THE MONTH OF MAY

May has began and traditionally it is the month for many Marian devotions around the world. On April 30th 1965, Blessed Paul VI promulgated a document called The Month of May (Mense Maio). This encyclical was written about the importance of the month of May and how through Our Blessed Mother's intercession we receive God's mercy in great abundance. Some scholars say that the month of May was chosen to be the month for Our Blessed Lady because of the fact that this month is recognized as the season of the beginning of new life. Being Our Blessed Mother who brought new life to humanity by giving birth to our Divine Savior ist, it was realized that the month of May suited perfectly to the Blessed Virgin. I share with you some quotes from Pope Paul VI's encyclical Mense Maio. “…The Church has always prayed from her earliest days, and in a special way calling on the intercession and protection of the Virgin Mary, who is the Queen of Peace” (MM 9). “…Let our prayers ascend to Mary in this month of hers, to implore her graces and favors with increased fervor and confidence” (MM 10). I our parish, our Marian Celebrations will be as follow: The crowning of Mary on May 13th and the Legion of Mary will say the rosary before every Mass. During this month, let us pray for peace around the world and may the Queen of Peace intercede for us.

EL MES DE MAYO

Comenzó el mes de mayo y tradicionalmente es el mes con muchas devociones marianas en todo el mundo. El 30 de abril de 1965, el Beato Pablo VI promulgó un documento llamado El Mes de Mayo (Mense Maio). Esta encíclica fue escrita sobre la importancia del mes de mayo y cómo a través de la intercesión de nuestra Santísima Madre recibimos la misericordia de Dios en gran abundancia. Algunos estudiosos dicen que el mes de mayo fue elegido para ser el mes de Nuestra Señora por el hecho de que este mes se reconoce como la época del comienzo de una nueva vida. Siendo nuestra Santísima Madre quien trajo nueva vida a la humanidad al dar a luz a nuestro Divino Salvador, se ent endió que el mes de mayo se adecuaba perfectamente a la Santísima Virgen. Comparto con ustedes algunas citas de la encíclica del Papa Pablo VI, Mense Maio. "... La Iglesia siempre ha rezado desde sus primeros días, y de manera especial ha pedido la intercesión y la protec-ción de la Virgen María, que es la Reina de la Paz" (MM 9). "... Permitamos que nuestras oraciones suban a María en este mes suyo, imploren sus gracias y favores con mayor fervor y confianza" (MM 10).

Durante el mes habrá diversas actividades en las que pueden participar. Peregrinaciones Marianas. Nos reuniremos en el Jardín del Rosario. Por favor, traigan una flor para la Virgen. 6 de mayo= los niños; 13 de mayo= Las Mujeres; 20 de mayo=Los hombres. Por favor venir con camisa roja; 27 de mayo= Los mi-nisterios parroquiales. "HOLY MARY, MOTHER OF GOD… " Every day and everywhere, someone is repeating these words around the world. Mary is the Mother of God from the day of the annunciation: "The Word be-came flesh and dwelt among us" (Jn 1, 14). And since Good Friday, Jesus from the cross gave it to us as the Mother of the believers (Jn 19, 27). The Church teaches us that "... certainly, from the earliest times, the Most Holy Virgin is venerated with the title of Mother of God, under whose shelter the faithful sup-plicants welcome in all their dangers and needs ... And the diverse forms of pie-ty towards the Mother of God that the Church has been approving within the limits of sound doctrine, make that, being honored the Mother, the Son by rea-son of which they are all things, be better known, loved, glorified , and that, at the same time, his commandments are better fulfilled "(Lumen Gentium # 66).

Therefore, May has a special meaning, because it honors the Mother of God, the Virgin Mary. and also to our mothers here on earth. We are invited to reflect on the main mysteries of Maria's life. To reflect implies to make an effort with the mind, the imagination and, also, with the heart, to deepen in the virtues that the Virgin lived throughout her life. We can meditate on how Mary behaved, for example, during: the Annunciation, the visit to her cousin Elizabeth, the Birth of Christ, the Presentation of the Child Jesus in the temple, when the Child Jesus was lost and found in the temple, in the Wedding of Cana, and at the foot of the cross.

"SANTA MARÍA, MADRE DE DIOS ..."

Todos los días y en todas partes, alguien repite estas palabras alrededor del mundo. María es la Madre de Dios desde el día de la anunciación: "El Verbo se hizo carne y habitó entre noso-tros" (Jn 1, 14). Y desde el Viernes Santo, Jesús de la cruz nos lo dio como la Madre de los creyentes (Jn 19, 27). La Iglesia nos enseña que "... ciertamente, desde los primeros tiempos, la Santísima Virgen es venerada con el título de Madre de Dios, bajo cuyo abrigo los fieles suplicantes acogen en todos sus peligros y necesi-dades ... Y las diversas formas de piedad hacia la Madre de Dios que la Iglesia ha estado aprobando dentro de los límites de la sana doctrina, haz que, siendo honrado como la Madre, el Hijo en razón de que son todas las cosas, se lo conozca mejor, lo ame, lo glorifique, y eso, al mismo tiempo, sus mandamientos se cumplen mejor "(Lumen Gentium # 66). Por lo tanto, mayo tiene un significado especial, porque honra a la Madre de Dios, la Virgen María. y también a nuestras madres aquí en la tierra. Estamos invitados a reflexionar sobre los principales misterios de la vida de María. Reflexionar implica ha-cer un esfuerzo con la mente, la imaginación y, también, con el corazón, para profundizar en las virtudes que la Virgen vivió a lo largo de su vida. Podemos meditar sobre cómo María se comportó, por ejemplo, durante: la Anunciación, la visita a su prima Isabel, el Nacimiento de Cristo, la Presentación del Niño Jesús en el templo, cuando el Niño Jesús se perdió y se encontró en el templo, en las Bodas de Caná, y al pie de la cruz.
