Chitkara

Chitkara College of Education celebrated the International Mother Language Day on 21st February 2018 with a theme, “Sustainable Futures through Multilingual Education (UNESCO)”. Students of B.Pharmacy, Pharma D, CSE and B.Ed, who belong to different states like Bihar, Haryana, Punjab, Nagaland, Kerala, Mizoram, Jharkhand and Himachal Pradesh participated in various activities conducted by Alpha Teachers with a motive to promote awareness of linguistic and cultural diversity of Indian states.

The activities ranged from paragraph writing, singing a song, writing idioms and phrases to introducing oneself in their native language. Students

• Based on the methodology closely resembling “language immersion”, CLIL was identified as an important approach by the European Commission since it enabled the confidence of pupils who were

struggling to respond well to

regular language instruction in

class.

• There are very many objectives

to CLIL but the most significant

one is to improve the educational

system and create a space wherein

students are motivated to achieve

the appropriate level of academic

performance in CLIL subjects

• CLIL is not the same as traditional

foreign language teaching courses.

Upcoming Events

Chitkara University, Punjab will be hosting the Second Open CLIL Intensive Training Workshop titled Boot Camp-Seasoning to Enhance Teaching Learning Experience from 24th to 28th April, 2018. This five-day International Training Programme will provide quintessential in-depth know-how on significant CLIL-related topics and take the discussion forward. Dr. Luciana Pedrazzini and Dr Andrea Nava, CLIL experts and Assistant Professors, Department of Foreign Languages and Literature, Universita Delgli Studi Di, Milano will be present at the workshop to provide their valuable insights.

ManipalCLIL@India Resource and Training Centre at MAHE, Manipal celebrated mother-tongue day on 24 February 2018 in collaboration with the Department of European Studies, MAHE. Students and staff of the Dept of European Studies participated in large numbers and made the event a resounding success. In addition to reciting poetry in languages such as Punjabi and Kannada, there were also interesting story-telling sessions in Mewari and Tulu.

In addition to giving a nod to various literary forms, the event saw rich linguistic diversity. While the M.A. students performed songs and recited poetry, the B.A. students presented stand-up comedy and folklore. Dr Arjuna, lead researcher of the Mahabharata project at MAHE, Manipal presented a story along with Dr Deepa BS, Research Associate, CLIL@India and Prathima Kalmady, Office Manager, CLIL@India
