Fo Guang Shan Monastery in southern Taiwan is the biggest Buddhist temple complex in the

country. The temple buildings are magnificent and spectacular, especially the Dafo (Giant Buddha)

Statue. During the period from the Chinese New Year to the Lantern Festival, Fo Guang Shan is

decorate with thousands of lanterns. The sea of lanterns is especially amazing at night.

佛光山是台灣南部最大的佛教寺院。寺廟建築尤其是大佛雕像非常宏偉和壯觀。在中國農曆新年到元宵節期間，佛光山裝飾了成千上萬的燈籠。在夜間的燈海更是蔚為奇觀。

The Reception Hall 禮敬大廳取代天王殿，是一項創舉。彰顯以人為本的深遠意涵，也表達對佛陀的尊崇恭敬，因為佛陀紀念館就是佛陀的家。

Lions are common in most temples as Buddha’s teachings are referred to

as “Lion’s Roar”, which is indicative of their strength and power.

獅子是廟宇最常見的，喻為佛陀的教誨稱為「獅吼」，敘述著佛陀的般若法音、無礙辯才，可以催破眾生的煩惱無明。這象徵了實力和權力。

Elephant represents mental strength and calm majesty.

大象象徵著佛陀乘白象入胎，紀念佛陀降誕，代表精神力量與平靜威嚴。

空間轉換 展開朝聖之旅禮敬取其「離境」之諧音，如同搭機的出入境大廳，經過這個空間轉換，才能飛往另一國度。同樣的，要深入探索佛國淨土的佛陀紀念館，也先在禮敬大廳備辦各項雜事，安頓身心，以安穩清淨的心，展開朝聖之旅。

Eight pagodas represent Noble Eightfold Path, a principal Buddha teaching that

leads mankind towards the cessation of suffering (dukkha) : right view, right intention,

right speech, right action, right livelihood, right effort, right mindfulness and right

concentration. Inside the pagodas are exhibitions, reading halls, etc.

佛館八塔，成佛大道兩旁則羅列八座中國式七層寶塔，高38公尺，八塔名稱分別為一教、二眾、三好、四給、五和、六度、七誡及八道。寶塔代表八正道，八正道佛教術語，是指佛教徒修行達到最高理想境地涅槃的八種方法和途徑。包括：正見、正思惟、正語、正業、正命、正精進、正念、正定。佛塔基座設有簡報室、接待中心，提供各種資訊及陳列文物、書籍等，讓來山參

觀的遊客可在這裡歇息、閱讀、聊天、休息或喝茶。

to Buddhahood" to get to the Main Memorial Center.

「八道」就是八正道--正見、正思惟、正語、正業、正命、正精進、正念、正定，修持的八個方法。

「七誡」代表誡煙毒、誡色情、誡暴力、誡賭博、誡偷盜、誡酗酒、誡惡口。

菩提廣場

菩提廣場兩側分別種植小葉欖仁樹，樹下有「十八羅漢」尊像，分別是佛陀十大弟子，加上迦留陀夷、賓頭盧、周利槃陀伽三位尊者，以及降龍、伏虎羅漢。

因為要合乎時代精神，倡導男女平等，另有三尊女性羅漢。第一位大愛道比丘尼，是佛陀的姨母，第二位優波遮那比丘尼，第三位是蓮華比丘尼。

This is the largest seated bronze Buddha in the world at 108 meters high, equal to thirty-six floors of general building, just head had three stories high.

全世界最大的銅鑄坐佛。基座加佛身有108米高，等於一般建築的三十六層樓，光是頭部就有三層樓高。

四聖諦塔坐落在主館的頂部，這分別象徵苦、集、滅、道四種正確無誤之真理；四諦塔內分別供奉大悲的觀音菩薩、智慧的文殊菩薩、大願的地藏菩薩、大行的普賢菩薩，故四諦塔又分別稱觀音塔、文殊塔、地藏塔及普賢塔。
