INTRODUCTIONThe 52nd World Congress of FIJET was hosted by Turkey in 2010, October 3-10. Wonderful weather, magnificent companions and a remarkable country: this was the background of the forum where more than 250 journalists from five continents discussed the role of the media in promoting the contemporary tourist industry. They also emphasized the importance of culture in attracting interest towards some countries. The congress first part took place in Istanbul, designated Cultural Capital of Europe for the year 2010, while the second one proceeded in the charming Bodrum. Fifteen Bulgarian newsmen had the exclusive pleasure to embrace the spirit of this magical vortex of unbelievable history, culture, haute cuisine and hospitality. And they also took part in the construction of cultural bridges for contemporary tourism.ZOOM 3

BUJET has been a member of the International Federation of Travel Writers and Journalists since 1957 and was among the first FIJET membersBy the end of 1954 Ralph Alofs, President of the Union of Belgian Tourism Journalists, launched a call to his French and Italian colleagues for the creation of a federation. On December 2 the same year, journalists from the three countries founded in Paris the Federation Internationale des Journalistes et Ecrivains du Tourisme (FIJET). The new international organization held its first congress in Nice in 1956. Seven delegates and seven observers took part in it. The same year in Bulgaria, a group of tourism and travel journalists founded the Bulgarian Association of Tourism Journalists and Writers (ABUJET) at the Bulgarian Journalists Union. The Bulgarian association joined FIJET at the congress in Cologne in 1957. FIJETs highest prize, the Golden Apple Award founded in 1970, went to Bulgaria in 1979 when it was given to the Rila Monastery. Several Bulgarian journalists have been appointed to the international federations governing bodies. Bogomil Nonev, Yasen Antov, and Emil Alexandrov were vice-presidents of FIJET. Iskra Koynova was Financial Controller. Plamen Starev is member of the Board of Directors. Today, the organization has more than 600 members in over 35 countries worldwide, in addition to 25 national member associations. FIJET is the largest professional organization of travel journalists. The members of ABUJET include 39 journalists from leading Bulgarian media. Of them, 27 are FIJET members. The freedom of expression and the consolidation of human rights on the basis of democracy are fundamental principles set in the Bylaws of both ABUJET and FIJET. Yeni dnya federasyonun ilk kongresi Nicede 1956 ylnda yedi delege ile yedi gzlemcilerin katlmyla dzenledi. Ayn yl Bulgaristanda turizm hakknzlemcilerin . da yazan birka gazeteci Bulgaristan Gazeteciler Cemiyetiyle bal olan Bulgayle yle ristan Turizm Yazarlar ve Gazetecileri Dernei (ABUJET)i tesis etti. Dernek, 1957 ylnda Kln kongresinde FIJETe ye olarak kabul edildi. Bulgaristan, FIJETin 1970 ylnda kurulan ve en byk turizm dl olan FIJET GOLDEN APPLE AWARD kazand. dl Rila Manastra verilmitir.
