As the government moves to reduce subsidies for home solar electricity panels from today, Australia’s
ecosmart solar, is urging homeowners to make the switch to solar hot water while rebates are still available.
the reduction of the solar Credits Multiplier from the small-scale Renewable energy scheme is being phased out a year earlier than scheduled and will affect the up-front price of solar electricity systems.
From today the solar Credits Multiplier will provide households with up-front support equivalent to around a fifth of the out-of-pocket costs for a typical 1.5kW solar panel system, before taking into account ongoing electricity cost savings and state based feed-in tariff incentives.
the solar Credits mechanism provides support for small-scale solar panels, wind and hydro electricity systems by multiplying the number of certificates that these systems would usually be able to create under the Renewable energy target scheme.
solar Credits applies to the first 1.5kW of system capacity installed for systems connected to main electricity grids and up to 20kW of capacity for off-grid systems.
the government believed it was necessary because demand for solar electricity panels was pushing up prices
and reducing demand for other clean energy technologies, including solar hot water systems according to ecosmart.
the Victorian Government is expected to make an announcement this month with regards to the Premium Feed In tariff.
Currently owners of installed solar electricity systems receive 60 cents per kW sent to the grid.
On the solar hot water front, homeowners in Victoria currently have available four different rebate schemes for replacing existing hot water systems.
Generally, three rebates can be claimed for replacing either an existing gas or electric hot water system.
“homeowners have become confused, and are frustrated with the ever changing solar legislations made by both state and federal governments,” Bendigo ecosmart dealer Jill Barker said.
“For Victorian homeowners, nothing will change for solar hot water investments, and there is a great opportunity to switch to a solar hot water system to keep electricity bills at a minimum,”

Open a bank account – most banks o� er savings accounts tailored for children and can include unlimited deposits, no account fees and good interest payments. Having their own account shows them how to save for something they really want such as a bike, skateboard or computer game.
Lead by example – encourage children to save up allowance and ‘birthday money’ instead of spending it frivolously and consider doing the same yourself. By aiming to bank ten percent of your income, your children will learn the value of restraint and you’ll see the bene� ts in your bank statements.
Practicing these for a few months should make a noticeable di� erence to everyone’s savings and set up a lifetime habit.
