Azealia Banks Twitter StormThe most recent twitter storm which has occurred was generated by the 24 year old American rapper, singer and songwriter, Azealia Banks. The star’s twitter rage was aimed at One Direction’s Zayn Malik, 23 after claiming his new music video was influenced by her work. Banks commented saying “Damn Zayn be mood boarding the f**k of out me,“. To which she then continued pursued to verballyabuse the very popular Zayn. The outspokensinger then targets Zayn with racist and homophobic comments. Banks’ comments have resulted in many singing appearancesbeing cancelled. Born and Bred festival in London tweeted the cancellation of Azealia’s performance to the users who made a petition to get them to cancel Banks’ PA anda lot of people were extremely happy withthis decision.

caused a lot of controversy and has made it to the headlines in quite a few online newspapers such as the Telegraph, The Independent and The Guardian.

With this tweet having generate a significant amount of attention through a feedback loop it falls

under the perfect twitter storm category.

Azealia’s comments were angered in response to two of Zayn’s tweets which

stated ‘No lies… I see you reaching out but I don’t care’ and the other ‘My @’s too good

for you’. Banks assumed the Pillow Talk singer’s tweets were aimed at her and

immediately got defensive, racially calling Malik a ‘Curry scented bitch’ and a ‘Ima start

calling you Punjab you dirty bitch’. These comments are just some of the atrocious

things Banks wrote. Thousands of users took to twitter to express their opinions and

comment on the situation with regards to what twitter should do to Banks’ account.

Amongst the Twitter users to get involved in the storm was 14 year old Disney star Skai Jackson. Skai took to Twitter saying "Azealia Banks needs to simmer down a little." It is easy to guess what happened next. Banks started putting all her Twitter fury into writing 140 characters that would take down the 14-year-old Jessie star. Azealia Banks tried to humiliate the 14 year old on Twitter by tweeting ‘Haha. We'll see who's laughing in September flatty patty. BYE DISNEY REJECT! maybe you can play my maid 1 TV on day’. With emphasis on the Disney reject banks appears to try and intimate Skai even though there is already a 10 year age gap between the two. The Independent posted an article based on this Twitter storm and featured an interactive survey where views could vote whether they think Twitter should suspend Azealia’s account. 29074 people vote to which 85 agreed her account should be suspended. I personally Banks’ twitter account should be suspended due to the extremes of the racist and homophobic comments she made about Zayn as well as negatively portraying the UK and saying bad things about the country in regards to music and culture.
