ANSYS 15.0 Advances Engineering SimulationPosted onDecember 3, 2013byWalid Abu-HadbaWhen I came from Microsoft to join ANSYS in April, I knew that ANSYS had been offering industry-leading engineering simulation software for more than four decades. But what I did not know was the amount of innovation and product technology that the company had lined up to deliver this year and over the next several years. As a result of the work Ive done with product development teams, I have grown even more passionate about ANSYS and what it has to offer the industry. I am, therefore, as proud as the rest of the team in announcing the release of our new product suite. ANSYS 15.0 builds upon the many years of leadership and includes dramatic upgrades in each of the key physics areas (electromagnetics, fluid dynamics, structures and embedded code). The combination of performance improvements, new solver capabilities, HPC scalability advances and pre-processing enhancements delivers insights into the most challenging product designs.ANSYS 15.0

Because manmade materials are everywhere, ANSYS 15.0 provides structural analysts with advanced new functionality for simulating composites. What I find very exciting is the innovation built in to ensure efficiency throughout the entire modeling process. For example, users can apply submodeling techniques in the pre-processing workflow to create high-fidelity local results while employing a coarser model globally to reduce overall computation time.In the area of fluid dynamics, our suite has always had the richest portfolio of physical modeling capabilities. ANSYS 15.0 enhances these by speeding up complex multiphase flow simulations. For example, immiscible fluids can be simulated up to 36% faster than before with the VOF approach. Our leadership in HPC and parallel scalability continues, and we have demonstrated industry-leading performance on more than 15,000 cores on a 150 M+ cell problem with combustion. The parallel scalability (~89% of ideal) is impressive, but what is really interesting is that this is achieved while using less than 10 k cells per core! There is much more in areas like adjoint technology and turbomachinery.Our leading approach to comprehensive simulation addresses applications that individual physics software cannot attempt. Today, engineers are left to make assumptions regarding how one physical calculation affects another or how boundary conditions should be applied to represent real-world observations. This leaves a high degree of uncertainty regarding accuracy of the final results. ANSYS has been delivering advancements for many years that enable true virtual prototyping through collaborative, full system and intuitive multiphysics solutions. The approach is essential to gain reliable design insights such as in electromagnetics, where ANSYS 15.0 offers the most comprehensive electric motor design process.
