Test Procedure: UE starts PS service for a

while in CELL_DCH Stops data transmission D2F, SCRI, F2P Send PS SMS to this UE Before the SMS, PS CNsend DIRECT TRANSFERmessage to UE to doauthentication, but UE sendRRC STATUS instead ofauthentication response

Test Result: FAIL

SMS on CS or PS?

Uplink (UE -> Short Message Center)

RIM has a switch to control UL SMS sent from CS or PS

We did not find similar switch in IPhone. CS is used by IPhone to send SMS

Downlink (Short Message Center -> UE)

HLR defines SMS from CS or PS. Need to check which domain is used in Canada

Authentication is mandatory for PS SMS?

Normally there is a switch in SGSN to control authentication in PS SMS procedure.

PS SMS is discarded?

If SMS is not delivered to UE successfully, SMS is saved in short message center and normally there is a

timer for this SMS, if timers expires, this SMS is discarded.
