INTRODUCTIONThe Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana (KVPY) is a program started in 1999 by the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India to encourage students who are studying Basic science to take up research career in Science.The aim of the program is to identify and encourage talented and motivated students to pursuer career in research, help them realise their academic potential and ensure the growth of the best scientific mind for research and development in the country. All the KVPY fellows are here by encouraged to subscribe a popular science magazine to keep abreast of the scientific development. CONTENTKishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana (KVPY) is a scholarship program funded by the Department of Science and Technology of the Government of India, aimed at encouraged students to take up research career in the area of basic scince, engineering and medicine. It offers scholarship and contingency grants up to the pre Ph. D level to the selected students. Started in 1999,it is administered by the Indian Institute of Science. KVPY is an ongoing National program of fellowship is Basic science initiated and funded by the department of India, to attaract exceptionally talented and highly motivated students for pursuing Basic science courses and researches career in science.

The objectives of the program are to identify students with talent and aptitude for research; help them realize their potential in their studies; encourage them to take up research careers in science and growth of the best scientific minds for researches and evelopment in the country.

The selection of student is made from those studying in ×Ι standard to 1st year in any undergraduate program in Basic Science namely BSc/B.stat/B.math/Int.M.Sc/Ms in mathematics/Phyiscs,Chemistry and bioilogy having aptitude for scientific research. Special opus/ committees are set up at iisl, to screen the application and conduct an aptitude test at various centres in the country. Based on the performance in the aptitude test. Short listed student are called for receiving a fellowship, both aptitude test and interview marks are considered.

The merit list is based on 75% weight age for aptitude test marks 25% streams SA, SB and SX. SA can be written by students studying in class ΙΙ. SX can be written by students studying in class 12. In year 2014, 1200 students qualified for KVPY scholarship out of about one lakh students who appeared for examination.

The program aim to assist the students to realise their potential and to ensure that the but scientific talents is groomed for researches and development in the country General fellowship and KVPY fellows are provided lever or 5 years whichever is earlier. In addition summer

camps for the KVPY Fellows are organised in prestigious research and educational Institution in the country. The department of science and technology, the nodal agency of the government has entrusted the overall responsibility for organising and running the KVPY program to the Indian Institute of science, Banglore and set up a management committee and a national Advisory committee(NAC) for overseeing etc. Implementation. A core committee looks after both the day today and academic aspects of the KVPY program.
