Social Determinants of Health
In aged care, when we are supporting older people we see effects on health from:
War experience
Lack of health care when younger
Lack of education and health literacy
Social/economic disadvantage
Social change – family, neighbourhoods
Family life
Trends
Older people living longer and being more educated than previous generations
Families less able/available to provide support
With longer life comes increased capacity to contribute to home and community but also increased risk of Dementia and chronic disease
Community life
Community Diversity
Valuing People
