직접법-. 중간생성물질인 메탄올이 반응기 내에서 DME로 전환되는 평형 전환율이 높다.-. 메탄올 합성반응 및 탈수반응, 물/가스 전환 반응시의 열을 연속적으로 제거해야 한다.-. 공정의 대형화 설계에 불리하다.

간접법-. 중간물질로 메탄올을 제조하고, 이를 탈수반응하여 DME를 합성하는 방법.

1998년 부터 스웨덴의 Volvo, 노르웨이의 Statoil 등이 참여하여 DME 버스 실험

DME 엔진

특 징

1. 입자상물질, 매연의 발생이 없는 청정연료 기관이다.

2. 높은 세탄가로 착화성이 양호하며, 기관의 정숙한 운전이 가능하다.

3. 확산연소가 빠르며, 연소기간이 짧고 열효율이 개선된다.

4. 경유차량과 유사한 실차 주행성을 갖는다.

엔진 수정 사항

1. 연료공급펌프 및 연료분사펌프 내 실링 (sealing) 재료의 변경

2. 연료 순환 라인의 고압화

3. 연료 순환량 증가에 따른 연료 분사 펌프의 냉각

4. 윤활향상제, 열량보조제 등 첨가제 필요

5. 분사시기 제어를 위한 ECU 변경

분무, 연소 및 배기 특성

1. 동일 분사기간 분사시 디젤 보다 분무 도달 거리가 짧고, 분무각이 크다.

2. 동일 발열량을 위해 분사기간을 늘리고 분사량 증가가 필요하다.

3. 동일 발열량 (에너지) 조건에서 최고 연소압력은 낮다.

4. Soot의 배출이 거의 없으며, 대체로 질소산화물은 증가한다.

5. CO 및 HC의 배출은 저감된다.
