Facilitator - key competencies

* Perceptiveness 鋭敏な知覚を持つ• Watches the behaviour of all participants

• Responds to non-verbal and verbal cues

• Notices individual’s reactions

* Detachment 議論から距離を保つ• Remains separate from the group – does not collude or ally

• Remains calm and even-tempered

• Confines interventions to process - does not dictate content or conclusions

* Communication

• Describes processes and aims clearly

• Demonstrates active listening

• Summarises accurately

* Intervention 時には介入も• Keeps the group ‘on track’

• Breaks circular discussions

• Helps people articulate disagreement or conflict and move to resolution

• Influences pace in line with aims / group needs

* Empathy 共感を持つ• Establishes credibility with the group

• Makes the group feel she/he understands them

• Shows respect for individuals

* Organisation

• Provides necessary resources and materials

• Clarifies objectives and communicates clear agenda – and keeps to it

• Checks agreed actions

Tips for Facilitators

• Put yourself in the other team members’ shoes – see their viewpoints, anticipate their possible actions

• Be a ‘fly on the wall’ひそかに観察しよう! Imagine watching the meeting from the edge of the room – Are things progressing? Do people need reminding of the aims? Do you need to steer the discussion?

• Invite contributions 貢献を促そう

• Clarify 内容を確認しよう

• Summarise 要約しよう

• Use your body language/tone/voice to change the pace if necessary ⇒ソーシャルメディア上でどのように代替するかが大きな課題
