    New media landscapesTe advent o the Web 2.0 has brought a lot ochanges in the way Internet is perceived, rom apredominantly text-based medium to a rich mediaplatorm on which people can share knowledge andexperiences. Active user participation enabled bythe advances in the web technologies shited the

    Web rom a simple presentation medium towardsa complex inrastructure that can be dened as anarchitecture o participation. Tese changes havebeen maniested in the orm o various services andplatorms that enable User Generated Content to becreated, shared, published and exchanged.

    In these continuously evolving landscapes, there isa need or knowledge and skills that ocus on thedesign, development and deployment o innovativeservices and web-based platorms. Tese diferentareas represent the oundations upon which ourMaster Programme in Social Media and Web ech-nologies is built.

    Programme aimTe aim o this programme is to ofer in-depthknowledge and skills related to the eld o Media

    echnology in general, with a special orientationtowards Social Media and Web echnologies.

    Te programme provides students with solid theo-retical oundations; knowledge and engineering skillsthat will enable them to identiy, manage and solvetechnical, organizational and design aspects relatedto the global digital media and Internet market using

    web and mobile technologies. Te programme isprovided in English and will start in the autumn o2011.

    During the course o this programme, you will beactively involved in lectures, seminars, lab activ ities,hands-on workshops and projects, as well as supervi-sion and individual tutoring.

    Programme outlineTe Master Programme in Social Media and Webechnologies is multidisciplinary in nature andcombines courses and expertise rom diferent areas,namely: web technologies, design and interaction,social media and I business. Te programmeconsists o two years o ul l-time studies.

    Te programme ollows the prerequisites or second-level studies (advanced level) and candidates thatsuccessully complete this programme wil l be eligibleor a Master o Science (two years) with specializa-tion in Social Media and Web echnologies. Majorsubject: Media echnology.

    Social media and web technologies are starting to radically change the social

    patterns and norms o how people communicate. Tere is a need or new

    approaches to understand these processes, as well as new knowledge about

    how technologies should be designed in light o these changes.

    Career prospectsAter the completion o this programme, studentswill have very promising opportunities regardingemployment. Social Media and Web echnologiesare present and used in almost all business activitiesnowadays.

    Tis programme will qualiy you to work at positionssuch as web developer, interaction designer, I strat-egist or new media editor at diferent companies orat large international corporations. You will be ableto start new innovative companies based on the skillsand expertise gained during your studies. Further-more you can also continue with research studiesleading towards a doctoral degree.

    Research connectionsWith the theoretical oundations and practical skillsofered by our master programme, there are plenty o

    research opportunities that you can pursue. Currentresearch within Media echnology at LinnaeusUniversity is carried out at CeLeK (Center orLearning and Knowledge echnologies, www.celekt.ino). Our cu rrent research track includes two mainorientations:

    Te development o mobile & wireless systemsand innovative web applications and tools tosupport collaborative learning.

    Te design o interactive learning environmentsto support collaborative discovery learning aboutcomplex domains.

    Activities carried out in these lines o research areunded by national and international unding agen-cies. In order to provide good connections with ourmaster programme, already during your studies we

    will introduce some o our current research topics inour courses, in the orm o lectures or possible topicsor the nal degree project.
