课程教学目标( Objectives ) This course is an introduction to different metal

forming processes such as rolling, extrusion forging, drawing, sheet metal forming and deep drawing. It will give an overview of the main metal forming processes but also provide some understanding of the complicated relations between a forming process and the product qualities. The course will begin with the development of the fundamentals of metal forming and material behavior. The emphasis throughout will be on the metal forming processing and equipment.

课程基本要求( Basic Requirements )

– Acquainting with different kinds of metal forming processes, including forging, rolling, extrusion, drawing, sheet metal forming and deep drawing.

– Acquainting with the equipment and tooling used in metal forming processes.

– Grasping the principles of processing design, equipment selection and die design for different metal forming processes.

教学内容与安排 ( Outline and Class Hour Setting )

Chapter 1. Fundamentals of metal forming ( 1 ) Classification of forming processes, mechanics of metal working.( 2 ) Temperature in metal working, hot working, cold working, strain rate effects, metallurgical structure, hydrostatic pressure, workability, residual stresses.( 3 ) Friction in metal forming processes.

Chapter 2. Forging ( 1 ) Classification of forging processes.( 2 ) Forging equipment and die design.( 3 ) Forging defects and prevention measures.

Chapter 3. Rolling ( 1 ) Classification of rolling processes.( 2 ) Rolling mills and mill-shape control.( 3 ) Problems and defects in rolled products and prevention measures.

Chapter 5. Drawing of rods, wires and tubes ( 1 ) Rod, wire and tube drawing processes.( 2 ) Residual stresses in drawing.

Chapter 6. Sheet metal forming ( 1 ) Forming methods, shearing, blanking, bending and stretch formi

ng.( 2 ) Defects in formed parts.
