Some of the crus in Monforte d’Alba and Barolo are too big to define their terroirs. Bussia in Monforte d’Alba, for example, covers about 300ha which is equal to all the registered vineyards in Castiglione Falletto. Some of the crus, such as Cannubi – a 34ha cru, regarded as the most iconic vineyards in Barolo –

THE CRUS OF
BAROLOBarolo comprises 11 villages, the most important being Barolo, La Morra, Serralunga d’Alba, Castiglione Falletto and Monforte d’Alba. Each vineyard in the villages has its own terroir, and even the same variety can display different characteristics. Traditionally, wine growers tend to source their grapes from different vineyards in order to gather all the essences from them. Until 1961, some wineries believed that certain vineyards had huge potential to produce world class Nebbiolo. Since then, the idea of single vineyard Barolo proliferated. The consorzio was officially defined by the boundaries of each vineyard 20 years later allowing producers to list one cru name on a label.

ELIO ALTAREElio Altare is a boutique winery that produces both blended and single crus Barolo. Situated in La Morra, they own 10 hectares of vineyards, most of them located in La Morra and planted mainly Nebbiolo. They plant fully organic vines and annual production is about 70,000 bottles only.
Elio Altare modernised his father Giovanni’s wine-making concept, introducing green harvest, use roto-fermenters for more efficient extraction, replacing all the old oak casks with French oak barriques. Elio Altare is now in the top tier of Barolo wineries, making wines that are are aromatic, complex and full of ageing potential.

The largest of the Greek islands – with some of the best food and friendliest people – Crete offers beautiful beaches, scenic mountains, villages and gorges, and a wide range of outdoor activities including hiking, mountain climbing, horse riding, gorge trekking, and of course water sports. History buffs can explore the many fascinating historic, religious and archaeological sites across the island. Some say that if you’re going to visit only one Greek island in your life, make it Santorini. Breathtaking volcanic views and sunsets among the best in the world consistently place it near the top of most Greek islands lists, but be prepared for crowds. Fira, the cliff top capital of Santorini, is a blend of Venetian and Cycladic architecture, with white cobblestone streets lined with shops, tavernas, hotels and cafes. Mykonos 米科諾斯
Often described as a cross between Ibiza and Capri, but with a distinctly Greek flavour, Mykonos is known for its cosmopolitan lifestyle, lively nightlife, and some of the best beaches in the country. Mykonos Town (also known as Chora) is picturesque, with a maze of tiny streets and whitewashed steps and lanes. Naxos 納克索斯
Said to be the most family friendly island in the region, Naxos offers great beaches and the main town is filled with great tavernas serving up some of the best food on the islands. There are also plenty of villages to explore and the island is well known for its fabulous beaches. Most of the west coast in fact is one long sandy beach with crystal clear blue waters. The mountainous interior contains a great variety of valleys and villages, easily reachable by a well-maintained road system. The Chrysler Building

Taking over from the Eiffel Tower, the Chrysler Building in Manhattan was the world’s tallest building for just under a year – from May 27, 1930 to May 1, 1931 – until its more famous neighbour, the Empire State Building, surpassed
it by about 200 feet.
Perhaps the most recognisable Art Deco building in New York, it is, at 1,046 feet, still the tallest brick building in the world, a record that is unlikely to ever be surpassed.
It was named the Chrysler Building not for the automobile company, but for the company’s owner, Walter Chrysler, and although he used it as the company headquarters for more than 20 years, he paid for it privately with his own money, so that he could leave it to his heirs.
Around 50 decorative features on five floors of the 77-floor building exhibit automotive influences, such as hub caps, fenders and radiator caps. The eagle gargoyles on the 61st floor are supposed to resemble Chrysler hood ornaments.
The Chrysler Building is, however, most recognisable for its decorative stainless-steel cladding, especially the seven terraced upper levels radiating in a sunburst pattern, with rows of triangular windows.
Its architect was William Van Alen, who, having failed to request a contract, had to sue Walter Chrysler for his fee. Van Alen’s reputation suffered as a result. He gave up architecture, and is today best remembered for the building that ended his career.
In 2005, New York’s Skyscraper Museum (skyscraper.org) polled 100 architects, historians, builders and engineers, asking them to choose their favourite New York buildings. The Chrysler Building was the winner.

克萊斯勒大廈或許是紐約最知名的裝飾藝術建築，它的高度為1,046英尺，仍然是世界上最高的磚造建築物，有可能是一項不能打破的記錄。
克萊斯勒大廈的名字不是因汽車公司而命名，而是以公司的東主而命名。他用大廈作為公司總部超過20年，但建造費用是以個人名義來支付，好讓後代能夠繼承大廈。
77層建築物中的其中五層具有50個汽車特徵的裝飾，如輪圈蓋、擋泥板和水箱蓋等。鷹貌的標誌出現在61樓，是克萊斯勒引擎蓋的裝飾品。
然而克萊斯勒大廈以不鏽鋼包層裝飾而聞名，特別是由七層同心弧形斜面組成的十字型弧稜拱頂相疊而成。
克萊斯勒大廈的建築師William Van Alen，因收不到建造費而起訴Walter Chrysler。Van Alen的名聲因此而受到影響。最後他放棄了建築，萊斯勒大廈便成為了他職業生涯中最好的回憶。
2005年，紐約摩天大樓博物館（skyscraper.org）向100位建築師、歷史學家、建築師和工程師進行調查，選出自己最喜愛的紐約建築。而克萊斯勒大廈成為了大贏家。

Roland started snowboarding and skiing 13 years ago in Lake Tahoe, Mt Baldy, Mountain High, California. He is certified
as SBINZ Level 2 from Niseko Academy and Rookies Academy. He started teaching as a Maxxtracks Certified Snowboard/Ski instructor in 2012. Being a certified instructor, Roland is pleased to see improvements in students, helping them maximise their potential. He is outgoing, self-motivated, adventurous and creative. Roland is always up for challenges to make life a little bit more colourful, and has competed internationally.

Besides her love of being active, Nora also loves animals and helping people grow. She is passionate about teaching and has been a teacher for over 10 years while having a full-time career. She is a friendly and motivating coach.

Benjamin Lai has snowboarded for about 15 years, and has been teaching
snowboarding for four years. He trained in Niseko, Japan, with a team of professional trainers, and received his SBINZ Level 2 instructor qualification, as well as the Children’s Teaching Certificate. He likes riding a wide variety of terrains including parks and powder, and enjoys teaching so more people can enjoy the sport safely.

William grew up in Switzerland, where he was on skis
daily in winter during his high school years, and he trained for competitive skiing. He continued to ski regularly during his college years in Boston. With more than 30 years’ experience in skiing and a CSIA certified instructor, he started to teach at Slope Infinity HK in 2012. Besides skiing, William is a passionate tennis player and has played in the HKTA A league division.

An outdoor enthusiast and adventurer, Kary has been skiing and snowboarding for five
years. She holds the Canadian Ski Instructors’ Alliance (CSIA) certification and Canadian Association of Snowboard Instructors (CASI) certification from Sunshine Valley, Banff and Whistler.BC. She has been teaching skiing and snowboarding in Australia, Canada, Japan and Korea for the last few years. Kary is able to adapt her teaching style to suit your needs. It is her passion to make her students fall in love with skiing and improve through her efficient teaching style. She is a lovely and patient coach.

It’s that time of year when we can enjoy the outdoors once again. Whether it be running, hiking or just walking, it’s the perfect time of year for outdoor activity.
This year, we have planned some December hiking activities to keep you motivated.
DECEMBER 1 – Hike up Nam Long Shan, our nearest hill. A tough hike, lots of steps, but great views from the top. Children may join, but there really are lots of steps!
DECEMBER 8 – Battle Trail Hike at Wong Nei Chung Gap. A hike through the trails showing some of the key sites of the Battle for Hong Kong. Good for all the family but recommended for children aged eight and above.
DECEMBER 15 – Dragon’s Back. A popular hike for all the family, but aimed at children aged eight and above.
DECEMBER 22 – Aberdeen Country Park to the Police Museum. A great family hike.
All hikes start at 9.30am, and a shuttle bus will leave from the Club Lobby at 9am for the hikes on December 8, 15 and 22. Please register in advance as space is limited. Enquiries: 2814 5342 (Health Club)

Ironman Gurye韓國求禮郡鐵人賽Congratulations to our Director of Sports & Recreation, Giles Leonard, who once again completed Ironman Gurye (Korea) in early September. All the extra training paid off, as he managed to go faster in all three disciplines (3.8km Swim, 180km Bike and 42.2km Run), and lowered his overall time by 40 minutes over last year. The Wu’s Style Tai Chi 24-Form is composed of 24 forms for beginners to learn and practice. The slow, graceful and rhythmic movements of the Tai Chi form, gently strengthen the organs and muscles, improve circulation and posture, and relax mind and body. It teaches patience and relaxation, and fosters an understanding of the co-ordination of mind, body and spirit. It is a good way to relieve the stresses and strains of today’s modern lifestyles. People of all ages, conditions and abilities can benefit from Tai Chi. Just a little regular practice is all that is needed. Those who have completed the 24-Form programme, or have Tai Chi experience, can join the Advanced Class to explore to more of Wu’s Tai Chi, such as the traditional form, pushing-hands, Tai Chi Sabre and Tai Chi Sword.

Children will have fun drawing, painting and letting their imagination run free! In small classes, children will be guided through themed projects and taught the fundamentals of drawing, colour mixing and painting techniques and even some interesting bits of art history. Our lessons are developmentally appropriate and designed to give children a central idea to start from and the room to take this idea as far as their inspiration, fingers and loads of paint will take them, so they can create their own unique masterpieces.

The Club is pleased to be supporting local environmental charity Redress by taking part in the #GetRedressed Month –
October Clothing Drive 2018.
Some 343 tonnes of mostly reusable or recyclable textile waste goes into Hong Kong landfills every single day.
Redress is working to stop this needless waste at both consumer and industry level. The #GetRedressed month offers opportunities to recycle and reuse unwanted clothing, learn about the impact the fashion industry has on the environment and understand more about sustainable fashion.
Please bring in your unwanted clothing before November 15, and place it in the boxes located at the Health Club.
What to donate: good quality clothes, accessories and shoes - from high-end
designer brands to high street fashion for women, men and children.
Not accepted: swimwear, underwear, poor quality shoes, and poor condition faux leather items.
Donations will be collected and carefully sorted by Redress for distribution to local HK charities and re-distributed to directly benefit refugees, babies, children, women at risk and the elderly. Top quality clothing will be sold to raise funds for Redress in an educational pop-up shop following the drive, whilst the clothes that cannot be used for the charity beneficiaries will be kept for Redress’ new circular economy initiative and ultimately recycled into new textiles.

Parking泊車守則• No Parking or waiting is permitted
in the Club’s entrance driveway.
• Please drive within 8 kilometres per hour in the Club’s parking areas with vehicle headlights on
• For safety reasons, dropping off or picking up passengers at the 2M restriction zone (the yellow-striped area by the 2M Clubhouse entrance) is not allowed, as it creates a potential hazard for vehicles driving up from the car park ramp. Please drop off or pick up at the 4/F car park.
