Preface
Purpose This document groups together all the abbreviations, terms and definitions relat-ing to the Alcatel 1000 MM E10. It includes standardized terms from the telecom-munications domain as well as terms specific to the MM E10.
This document aims to make MM E10 customer documentation easier to accessand understand and should be together with this documentation.
Audience This document is aimed at anyone reading the MM E10 customer documentation.
Contents Chapter 1 contains the list of abbreviations used in MM E10documentation.
In this chapter:the abbreviations are listed in alphabetical order,
the abbreviations are followed by their extendedform in French and in English,
an asterisk before an abbreviation means that theterm is defined in chapter 2.
Chapter 2 defines the terms specific to the MM E10.
In this chapter:

CHANNEL ASSOCIATED SIGNALING A signaling method in which the signals for the traffic carried bya single transmission channel are transmitted over that channelitself or over a signaling channel permanently associated withit (ITU-T def.).
This term may also apply when the signals for a circuit are trans-mitted over the channel carrying the traffic (ITU-T remark).
CHARGE ACCOUNT Content of the charge counters assigned to each subscriber andcircuit connected to a switch.
CHARGE CODE (CTX) Parameter used to determine the set of charging modes appli-cable at a given time, based on date and time.
CHARGE COUNTER Unit assigned to a subscriber line or an incoming circuit, whichrecords the number of charge units added for all completedcalls made over the subscriber line or incoming circuit.
CHARGE DETERMINATION Charging function used by the system to determine, based onthe subscriber line and call characteristics, the charging infor-mation (connection charge, period, rate change, etc.) neededto generate the charge.

CHARGING ZONE (ZTX) Geographical zone within which subscribers have the samecharging characteristics for the same service.
CIRCUIT DIRECTIONALIZATION Setting an upper limit on the number of outgoing circuits thatcan be busied. This is a protection against an imbalance oftraffic between centers such as may arise if there are unusualchanges in the flow of calls.
Directionalization only applies to circuit groups served by com-mon channel signaling.
CIRCUIT GROUP All circuits of the same type (incoming, outgoing or both-way)and the same signaling code, associated with one direction.

the layer 2 data link carrying the PSTN signaling,
each of the layer 2 data links carrying the protection proto-col,

SERVER CONTROLLER SOFTWARE MA-CHINE (ML GS)
Software machine which manages the servers which gives ac-cess to the mobile (GSM and UMTS) and intelligent networks.
SERVER SUBSYSTEM Optional part of the MM E10 consisting of up to n Nectar plat-forms, handling application-oriented functions for the E10 coresubsystem.
SERVICE CHARGING Charging for an IN service triggering by the SCP, implementedby the SSP.
SERVICE CONTROL FUNCTION (SCF) Application of the service logic to the control of functional enti-ties when supplying intelligent network services (ITU-T def.).
SERVICE CONTROL POINT (SCP) A physical entity of the intelligent network that performs a ser-vice control function (ITU-T def.).
SERVICE LOGIC (SL) A set of rules and programs which interact with the networkcapabilities and the Basic Call State Model (BCSM) to performservices in an IN.
SERVICE SCRIPT Software component of an intelligent network which describes
and sequences all individual actions involved in executing a callwith all the features of the required service.
SERVICE SUBSCRIBER An entity that has signed an agreement to receive services pro-vided by service providers (ITU-T def.).
SERVICE SWITCHING FUNCTION (SSF) A set of processes that provide the call path for interactionbetween a call control function and a service control function(ITU-T def.).

SERVICE USER (SU) Entity that is external to the network, which uses the services ofthe network (ITU-T def.).
SHELF Compartimentized level in a rack, which comprises a mechan-ical structure, a back plane and board holders.
SIGNALING ANALYSIS In a given signaling network, denotes the mapping of a Sig-naling Point (SP) code to a signaling routing in order to obtainanother SP.
SIGNALING LINK SET List of signaling links, associated with a law for distribution oftraffic, which connect 2 signaling points.
SIGNALING NETWORK A network used for signaling by one or more users and con-sisting of signaling points and connecting signaling links (ITU-Tdef.).
SIGNALING POINT (SP) A node in a signaling network which either originates andreceives signaling messages, or transfers signaling messagesfrom one signaling link to another, or both (ITU-T def.).
SIGNALING ROUTING In a signaling network, ordered list of signaling link sets whichare associated with a traffic distribution law.
SIGNALING TRANSFER POINT (STP) Signaling point with the function of transferring signaling mes-sages from one signaling link to another, and considered ex-clusively from the viewpoint of the transfer (ITU-T def.).
SIMPLE RIGHTS A terminals rights consisting of the command classes to whichthe operator has access without a password.
SITE DATA Data which defines software behavior for a switch. This data isvalued in the site software library (BBU).
SITE SOFTWARE LIBRARY (BBU) The complete set of software and data at a given site. The wholeset consists of:
the basic software package library which depends on therelease and the country where the site is located,
data which represent the configuration of the site involved(subscribers, stations, routings, analyses, etc.).
SOFTWARE AGENCY Set of services providing software management functions.
SOFTWARE COMPONENT SUB-LAYER Part of the Transaction Capabilities Application Part (TCAP) han-dling software components.
SOFTWARE MACHINE (ML) Software which performs one of the MM E10 functions and issupported by an SM.
SOFTWARE MODULE (OL) Generic term which denotes an OM application or CSN, an ML,a firmware, etc.

SWITCHING MATRIX Fully duplicated system consisting of the switching network (RCXor RCH), LRs and/or high rate matrix links (LRH) and of a branchselection and amplification device.
SWITCHING NODE An interstitial point in a telecommunication network where tem-porary interconnection of inlets and outlets may be undertakenas required (ITU-T def.).
SWITCHING PATH Path which connects an input to an output in a particular unit.
SWITCHOVER Change of SM processing subsystem states, from active mode tostandby mode, initiated by the operator or by the SMM centraldefense.
SYNCHRONIZATION AND TIME BASESTATION (STS)
Station composed of a triplicated time base which generatestiming signals necessary for the operation of the switching ma-
trix, CSNLs, SMTs, SMAs, SMB_Ts and SMB_As.
SYNCHRONOUS DIGITAL HIERARCHY(SDH)
Hierarchical set of digital transport structures, standardized forthe transportation of suitably adapted payloads over physicaltrans
