D., The curriculum of the future, London: Falmer Press, 1998. 19. 125 , , , . . , , , 2009 . , . , , .: , , , , 20. 126 7 2Abstract18)Competency and Character Education in the MusicCurriculum in KoreaJung, Eun-Gyeong*Chung, Jin-Won**This research aims at examining the educational effect in the music curriculum in Koreaaccording to the educational demand of the recent diverse changes in the society whethermusical education in Korea can improve students competency and character.As for the study method, literature research was mainly conducted, and with regard tothe research contents based on it, first, the meanings of competency-based educationemphasized nowadays and Character Education as the core competency were investigated,second, the contents related to competency and Character Education in music curriculum sofar were analyzed, and third, the characteristics of the current music curriculum centeredon competency and Character Education were studied into.There are three indications of this research. First, it has been verified that cultivationof human emotions and characteristic through musical experiences have been suggested asthe main goal and role of music education along with the goal of developing studentsmusicality in the process of music curriculum revision so far. Second, these contentsrelated to personality are being emphasized particularly in the section of the goals ofmusic education, but it has also been proved that no specific musical activities connectedto them are clearly suggested in the sections of contents, teaching and learningmethods, and evaluation.
