1.1 Overview
A Preset determines the selections or actions available in particular situations. Creating a presetoffers a way to reduce screen options to those options that are relevant to the users task in theparticular situation. Presets are used to configure webtop without performing WDKcustomizations.

D6 Webtop components were enhanced to honor preset configurations.
Presets are not used to provide security
Presets are not supported by Taskspace
The Presets Editor allows configuration of Webtop through an end-user interface
Presets configurations limit the selections are actions available for a given user, oractions available for a given user, location or object type
1.3 Preset Scope
A Preset is assigned a particular item or set of items, which is called the scope. For example, apreset could be assigned to a particular user group. Or a preset could be assigned to a particularuser group when combined with a particular folder location. The scope assigned to each Presetmust be unique. For example, you can only have one preset with the scope: location=test_folder;but you can have different preset with the scope: location=test_folder and role =sales_department
1.4 Preset Rules
A preset comprises one or more rules. Each rule determines the selections or actions availablewithin a specific functional area. For example, a rule can determine available lifecycles, available

6 PRESETS PRECEDENCE
The default order of precedence for applying presets is as follows:
- A preset for a location takes first precedence.
- Followed by a preset for a user.
- Followed by a preset for a role.
- Followed by a preset for an object type.
Precedence is defined by the order of qualifier in app.xml (The default precedence can bemodified).
When a user belongs to multiple roles with presets, selection of preset is configurable in theapp.xml element.
If no is defined and there are multiple roles with preset configurations, thepreset used is determined as follows:
- Within a role hierarchy, the preset with the most derived role is used.
- If the roles are not hierarchical, the role that comes first in alphabetical order is used.
