Why should we care?Why should we care? Every year, the rate for suicides and depressions in
Korea is increasing. According to the National Stastical Office, the suicide rate in Korea in the year 2000 was 6437. However, by 2007, the rate almost doubled and became 1,2174.
According to OECD’s suicide rates per 100,000 people, Korea’s suicide rate is 24 people, one of the highest suicide rate in the world.
Depression rate also increased tremendously. In 2003, 395,457 people were categorized as going through depression, but by 2007 this rate increased to 525,446 people. In just five years, the rate increased for about 33%.
