The petroleum industry includes the global processes ofexploration, extraction, refining, transporting (often by oiltankers and pipelines), and marketing petroleum products. The largest volume products of the industry are fuel oiland gasoline (petrol). Petroleum (oil) is also the rawmaterial for many chemical products, including pharmaceuticals, solvents, fertilizers, pesticides, and plastics. The industry is usually divided into three majorcomponents: upstream, midstream and downstream. Midstream operations are usually included in the downstream category.

No exemplo citado acima, “my” vem acompanhado do substantivo “house”.

PREFACE
This handbook has been compiled for readers with an interest in the oil and gas industry. It is an
overview of the main processes and equipment. When we searched for a suitable introduction to be used for new engineers, I discovered thatmuch of the equipment is described in standards, equipment manuals and project documentation. Little material was found to quickly give thereader an overview of the entire oil and gas industry, while still preserving enough detail tolet the engineer have an appreciation of the main characteristics and design issues.
