EDUCATION

• Spring 1869 he began his studies at the University of Jena

• Studied chemistry, mathematics, and philosophy

• Got Ph.D. in 1873

• 1879 his first major work was published

• Presented new method of logical language

• 1884 published ”The foundations of Arithmetic”

ACCOMPLISHMENTS• Became a professor at the University of Jena

• His work was often opposed by his contemporaries.

• Became known as one of the most important logicians in history.

• Developed the theory of sense and denotation into a philosophy language

• Showed that arithmetic could be reduced to second-order logic with Hume’s Principle.
