Obiettivi didattici:
• Riconoscere la montagna come rilievo della superficie terrestre.
• Denominare con i termini specifici le parti della montagna.
• Conoscere gli elementi che caratterizzano la montagna.
• Conoscere come la montagna è rappresentata nelle carte geografiche.
• Saper definire l’ambiente della montagna con riferimento alla flora e alla fauna.
• Conoscere gli elementi antropici della montagna.
Metodologia:
L’ Unità Didattica consiste in una prima parte di introduzione all’argomento con la lettura
guidata di un fumetto in cui sono contenuti termini relativi alla montagna.
Seguono le informazioni geografiche inerenti gli elementi che costituiscono l’ambiente
montagna. Gli argomenti sono stati affrontati con brevi testi espositivi, immagini, tabelle,
schemi, foto ed attività pratiche che ne semplificano la comprensione.
Gli obiettivi mirano a stimolare la produzione orale e scritta ed a fornire all’alunno spunti
di ricerca personale.
Attività di motivazione:
• E’ consigliabile introdurre l’Unità con una storia a fumetti che susciti l’interesse
sull’argomento.
Approfondimenti:
• L’altitudine.
• Le piante e gli animali in relazione all’altitudine.
Note :
Accanto ad ogni consegna c’è il simbolo corrispondente per facilitarne la comprensione.
Le tabelle delle pagine 22 /23 / 24 possono essere stampate su carta lucida per poterle

THE MOUNTAIN
The mountains are relieves above 600 mt. of altitude(1).
The peaks (2)are sharp and the slopes(3) are steep.
On the highest peaks the snow never melts.
This happens because the higher it is ,the colder the air
becomes.

Activity
“make a mountain … with the play doh”
Things you need :
• coloured play doh;
• sticks;
• wooden sticks.
Procedure
1. take some play doh of different colours and prepare many layers, of half
centimeters each.
2. roll out the layers with a stick and put one layer on another.
In this way you have made a pack of rocks!
3. on the sides of the block ,put two small pieces of wood and push them one
against the other.
The layers of play doh will start to corrugate : Your mountain is ready!

“MAKE A MOUNTAIN … with paper”
With a piece of paper try to simulate the formation of a mountain.
Things you need:
• a piece of paper.
Procedure:
1. Put a piece of paper on the desk.
2. Push it with your hands inwards and your mountain is formed.

VOLCANOGENIC MOUNTAINS.
From the inner part of the earth, the magma rises towards the top.
When the magma comes out of the splits of the earth it becomes
lava flow.
When time passes, the lava gets transformed in rocks.

the magma from the inner part of the earth pushes towards the big rock
walls.
The rock walls collide pushing upwards.

The altitude is measured from the sea level .
According to the different heights there are three types of land:
THE PLAINS, THE HILLS and THE MOUNTAINS.
These lands differ from each other according to the height from sea
level and the landscape.

IN THE MOUNTAINS
In the mountains, you can find many different animals and plants.
Their life depend on the altitude in which they live.
At low heights (from 600 to 1 000 mt.) there are woods of beeches,
chestnuts, oaks.
There are squirrels, foxes, golden pheasants, wild boars, hares.
Between 1 000 and 2 000 mt. there are needle-shaped trees,
as the scotch pine, the silver fir, the larch.
Here you may find bears, wolves, deers and roes.
Higher, up to 3 000 mt, it is cold and the wind blows on the bare
upland slopes .
There are low plants which survive in the wind and coldness:
edelweiss,mountain pine , rododendrn, blueberry
.
There are animals as the marmot, the steinbock,the chamois, the
eagle, the peregrin fawk.
Above 3 000 mt., the snow never melts and it is very cold.
There are : rocks and lichen.

Life is not easy in the mountains.
The land is steep and its very cold.
It’s difficult to cultivate build houses and roads.
People cultivate the lands down in the plains.
People plant apple trees and vines on the slopes of the mountain.
People breed cattle,sheep and goats to produce butter milk and cheese.
At winter the animals stay in the stables down in the plain; during the
warm months, the animals go to the uplands.
The wood comes from the trees of the forest and people use it to
handcraft objects and sculptures.
In the mountains people build dams and water energy is used to
produce electricity.
Roads,hotels,restaurants and sport facility are built to encourage
tourists.
