Here are three "growth" areas for stewardshipof time
and talent that I hope we can expand in the parish. I am
thankful for those already helping in these areas, and I
encourage more people to become involved in order to
provide even more service within the parish. Maybe you
have noticed some areas that need some "love in the
details." If so, then perhaps this is an opportunity to
grow in stewardshipof time and talent for the parish!

Church and Sacristy Care and Cleaning: There is
already great commitment in this area, but there is so
much more we would like to do for the love of God and
for our community! We can always use many more
people to show "love in the details" in caring for our
church. With the many Masses we are having these
days, it would be a tremendous help to have more
involvement to prepare, to clean, to put away, and to
care for everything in the church.

Gardening and Landscaping: I know that we have the
talents to beautify the grounds immediately surrounding
the church and school. A number of different roles are
needed: everything from planning and coordinating
group work days to regular "love in the details" attention
to watering and weeding, etc.

Facility Upgrades: There are areas of our facilities that
need some TLC to make them more welcoming. A
great deal of work has already gone into our meeting
room wing behind the church, making it much more
appealing and usable. There are other areas we could
focus on inthis same way. These upgrades would not
involve major construction or capital projects but things
like decluttering or DYI projects for those with fixer
upper talents.

Please prayerfully consider how you might help in these
or in other ways. If you feel God calling you to share
your time and talent, please contact Amy in the parish
office at:[email protected]

NECESSARY AND URGENT
These are the words, approved by Pope Francis, of Cardinal
Sarah, the Prefect of the Congregation for Divine Worship, on
the need to return to the Eucharist. I think that many in Saint
Rose Parish have this same spiritual intuition since attendance
at Mass has been increasing. Whether or not there is a
canonical obligation to attend Mass, we need Jesus! He is, of
course, found most substantially in the Eucharist.

We are under a dispensation from the obligation to attend Mass,
but the dispensation is not without requirements. The dispensation covers those
who are sick and those who are caring for the sick. It covers those at highrisk
for complications from contracting the virus. It also covers those who are in fear
of contracting the virus. It does not cover those who are not in any of these
categories but who nevertheless choose not to attend Mass.

In encouraging those who are going about life without fear to attend Mass, I am
creating problems but welcome problems of how to accommodate
everyone who wants to come to Mass. One of the reasons so many of us are
living without fear is that we are taking reasonable precautions against the virus
including wearing masks, washing our hands, and practicing social distancing.
Social distancing limits the number of people we can have in church at one time
so please be considerate about choosing which Mass to attend, especially on
the weekends. Here are some points to consider:
always sign up for weekend Masses
the 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. Masses on Sunday and the 6:30 p.m. Spanish Mass
on Saturday are the least crowded
 weekday Masses are not crowded
weekday Masses are offered morning, noon, and night!
 follow social distancing guidelines

I look forward to the day when we can have a packed church again! I don't
know when that will be. In the meantime, we are trying to offer as many Masses
at as many times as we can. Please let me know how we can serve you better.

NECESARIO Y URGENTE
¡necesitamos a Jesús!

No cubre

puntos a considerar:
servirle mejor.
Fielmente,

EWTN Radio is pleased to announce the
launch of “Women Made New,” a weekly radio
show with Host Crystalina Evert. The show
offers advice for women by women on
Catholic marriage and family life in the
21
st
Century. The show airs at 11 am Central
time, Saturdays on WSRR, Saint Rose Radio
FM 99.3. She will talk candidly about the hard
topics with which every woman struggles. As
Evert says, it’s never too late for a woman to
start over and to heal the wounds from the
past. ‘Women Made New’ with Crystalina
Evert is one of a number of EWTN Radio
shows that address this crisis in the family
head on.
Please don’t forget you can listen on Saint
Rose Radio 99.3FM Fr. Baker’s homilies at
9pm Sundays and Saturdays, and his Abiding
In Hope 9pm Mondays and Fridays, 8pm
Saturday and 3:30pm Sundays. We also have
Dr. Smith’s podcasts Thursdays 9pm and
Saturday 9am for some great theology and
philosophy. For our Spanish parishioners
there is great Spanish programming Sundays
8:30am to 3pm then Spanish mass at 5pm. If
you are homebound and need a radio to help
listen and grow in your faith, please call
Richard at 615-962-4661 and we will be glad
to provide you one.
Fr. Baker’s Hometown Homilies are broadcast
on WSRR 99.3 on Saturdays and Sundays at
9 pm, and Dr. Smith’s Take Every Thought
show is broadcast Saturdays at 9 am
Thursdays at 9 pm. Tune in and listen!

LUMINOUS THURSDAYS
Each Thursday night at 7:00 p.m. during Adoration in the church, we will have a
special time of prayer and reflection. Here is the plan:
1st Thursday of the month: an Evening of Recollection for Men* (Oct. 1)
2nd Thursday of the month: an Evening of Recollection for Women* (Oct. 8)
3rd (and 5th) Thursday of the month: Examination of Conscience and
Confessions (Sep. 17)
4th Thursday of the month: Praise and Worship Holy Hour with Confessions
(Sep. 24)
*The Men's and Women's Evenings of Recollection will consist of a Meditation
(a spiritual talk, usually on a virtue or other aspect of the interior life),
Examination of Conscience, and Confession

I am calling these evenings "Luminous Thursdays", linking them to the Luminous
Mysteries of the Rosary which are usually said on Thursdays.
The Baptism of the Lord: we are Children of God by adoption in Baptism
The Wedding Feast at Cana: the first sign or miracle of Jesus
The Proclamation of the Kingdom: Repent and believe the Gospel!
The Transfiguration: seeing Jesus in His Glory
The Institution of the Holy Eucharist: Jesus really present before us
I hope that this will be a program for regular spiritual growth for many in the
parish!
