GENERAL SITUATION IN INDONESIA Despite of the existence of accreditation (nearly
300 testing laboratories in the field of chemicalanalysis have been accredited in Indonesia) andproficiency testing schemes, the use of CRMs isfar from widespread.
Laboratories trying to acquire CRMs for methodvalidation and for analytical quality assurancepurposes will find a hard facts that access tointernational market or commercial producers
are difficult and therefore high costs areencountered.

At present only laboratories having access tointernational market and ready to pay forrelatively high costs are using CRMs in regular
basis. For examples are petroleum products, coal
testing laboratories, but not yet foods,
environmental (except very few ones), clinicaltesting laboratories, etc. Many small and remote medium sized
laboratories are out of question.

Some other laboratories are using other types ofreference materials such as spiked samples,spiked blanks, reference materials havingconsensus values from a proficiency testingscheme for the analytical quality assurance oftheir test results.
Despite of the facts, however, concerns for usingCRMs are gradually growing now and thisshould be well anticipated by regulatory bodiesand relevant parties concerned.
