HOW DO I GET OUT OF THE 7TH GRADE?
First and second semester averages must be 70 or above in 3 of the 4 core areas (Language Arts, Math, Social Studies, and Science).
Attendance MUST be acceptable.
Pass STAAR test
8TH GRADE IS NOT VERY DIFFERENT FROM 7TH GRADE……
You will still have teams…8-1 or 8-2. You will have the five core subjects:
- Reading/EXPO
- English- Math- Science- U.S.History.
You will have two electives. You can take Athletics

You must have 2 years of PE/Athletics completed in your 3 years of middle school.
You will have the opportunity to take classes that may receive high school credits.
You will have extracurricular opportunities.
ELECTIVE CHOICES…. Theater Band Orchestra Choir Art PIT (Principles of
Information Technology)*You must have earned credit for Keyboarding in 7th grade, and have strong math skills to sign up for PIT.

Gateway to Technology Touch Systems Data Entry Study Hall Spanish I-8-must have successfully
completed Spanish I-7
Mandarin Chinese I-8-must have successfully completed Mandarin Chinese I-7
P.E.
ORCHESTRA AND BAND ELECTIVE GUIDELINES
You will have to qualify for Orchestra or Band, according to the Orchestra and Band directors.
Orchestra and Band require a year long commitment.
ATHLETICS GUIDELINES Athletics is available for those who wish to
participate in competitive volleyball, football, basketball, and/or track/cross country.
Practice is REQUIRED and goes until 5:00 pm. Transportation is the responsibility of the parents.
This requires a year long commitment. When you are not in season you will do off-season workouts.
A physical exam is required to be in athletics. You must pass or remain academically eligible
in all your classes to participate in the team sports.
Workout clothes: Gray t-shirt and navy blue shorts. Students will purchase uniforms from the PE/Athletics department.
MORE INFORMATION
Fine Art electives and pre-AP classes are usually only offered one or two class periods. The
schedule is made to accommodate the greatest number of students, therefore your requests are
not guaranteed.
PRE-AP CLASS GUIDELINES Your teachers will have information about pre-AP
Science, History, and English.
You will sign an pre-AP contract – stating that you will commit to a full year of the pre-AP class and understand that it is a higher level/faster paced learning class.
Algebra is an 8th grade option for Math if test results support placement. The placement test will be administered near the end of the school year. Your math teacher will have information.
*Remember in High School you will be required to complete 4 additional courses of Math to fulfill graduation requirements.
MATH ACCEL & READ 180 GUIDELINES
STAAR Accelerated classes will be assigned to students based on STAAR results. This will result in the loss of
elective classes.

There are no guarantees that you will receive your first choice on your request. We will do our best to place you in your first choice, but there are times that it will just not work in the schedule.
Make sure to fill out the alternative classes that you would like to take, just in case you do not receive your first choice.
