Many peer-educators lack comprehensive information on…
Basic Health & Hygiene – Masturbation, Wet Dreams

Contraceptives – Condoms, Emergency Contraceptives
STI/HIV – very general & stereotypical symptoms
Almost every school’s sexual education curriculum comes from PATH
All peer-educators were said to be trained by PPHO – delay of first sex
& sex negotiation

Attitude
Peer Educators: mostly surprisingly conservative.
Teachers: mostly conservative. Tend to preach “ ______”
School Administrators: varies.
Vocational vs. High School: different. Vocational schools are
much more open.
** Should Improve the Attitude of ALL
to better accept SAFE SEX as a RIGHT!**

The Project
Selection Process = typical “teacher’s pet”
Peer-Educators are unclear about their roles… Mix up with other projects
Counselor vs. Outreach activities
Awareness of Peer-Educators is still low: non-involved students
did not know of the project and services
“Be My Friend” log books may not be the best or only way to
monitor project

Youth Friendly Service
Preferred Operate Time: 08.00-20.00
Location: near (but not in) schools and hospitals, best if in shopping center
Include Entertainment Facilities
Public Relations: billboards & local radio
Service provider characteristics: nice, friendly, credible and can keep secrets
Services: counseling, basic health check, free condom, if serious case could send to hospital (with speed-pass)
Funding: local governing authorities, municipality, and membership fee
