    Leadership

My leadership style that I got was Team Leader and Entrepreneurs. Some strengths that I

identified with was being change-oriented, non-traditional, questioning, and inno ati e. I ha e

always strayed away from the norm and stri ed for change when needed. Embracing change and

adapting to the e er-changing field of health care not only ma!es one more fle"ible, but

adaptable to arious setting. In past #obs and my current position, I ha e a !nac! for loo!ing for

ways to ma!e things more efficient and producti e. I use to be a team educator$trainer for one of

my past #obs, and instilling different training methods into my wor! not only pro ed to be

successful, but created solid team members that were conscious of growth and willingness to be

independent while wor!ing together. There is ne er one way of accomplishing a tas!. %lans Ill

ta!e to strengthen my leadership style is to continue to empathi&e with my fellow

cowor!ers$classmates iewpoints and encourage a harmonious en ironment through teamwor!

and direction. In the school and wor! setting I plan to be open to others opinions and ideas,

researching and learning about arious leadership nursing roles and scopes of practice, and

always as!ing for help from mentors and professors so that I may gain a solid foundation

towards my career of nursing. In an article that e"amined nurse leadership in a emergent

simulation en ironment among nursing students and licensed '(s, showed that successful

teamwor! relies on agreed team ob#ecti es and defined roles )Endacott, *ogossian, +ooper,

orbes, ain, oung, / %orter. 01234. *eing a good leader not only is important from

maintaining good cowor!er relations but as well as in emergent situations. In the same article, it

showed that the more e"perienced nurses were better at wor!ing as a team, indicating the need to

pro ide e"plicit opportunities to de elop teamwor!ing s!ills in the undergraduate curriculum

processes in ol ing leadership integrity, aluing wor!ers, trust creation, inspiration, coaching,

    and posing intellectual challenges )+leary, 6orsfall, 7eacon, / 8ac!son. 01224. Thus being a

great leader not only increases producti ity but creates great interpersonal relationships.

+haracteristics of a good follower are open to constructi e criticism, !nowledge of

growth and opportunity, moti ation, adaptable, fle"ible, and a hard wor!er. *eing a good

follower should always be open to change, willingness to grow and wor! collecti ely with

others. I; e always found it that good followers are only as good as the leader they follow. *eing

moti ated and ha ing that urge to do your best is critical to being a good follower.

: erall I learned a lot about my leadership style and ways that I may impro e and

de elop during my clinical and wor! setting. nowing my style and the way that I address and

handle situations is !ey to being able to progress and ad ance as a nurse. Some of the best nurses

that I ha e wor!ed with show many of the positi e abo e listed qualities. Its clear to see a good

leader from a poor leader. 9s a student, I will continue to grow and challenge myself to not #ust

be a good leader, but a better person.
