BRIEF DEFINITIONS• A library is a collection of
information resources and services, organized for use, and maintained by a public body, institution, or private individual.
• A place in which literary and artistic materials, such as books, periodicals, newspapers, pamphlets, prints, records, and tapes, are kept for reading, studying and reference.
Purpose of a library• The purpose of establishing
a library was to support teaching, learning and research of students and staff of an institution.
INFORMATION RESOURCES
• Library ensure to provide Information resources in various mediums.
What can a library do for
you?
ACQUIRE /ORGANIZE• Acquires information resources.
• Organizes the resources by
classifying and cataloguing them for easy access.
E-RESOURCES• Library subscribes to
several electronic resources/ databases and provide facilities to access them, i.e. systems, internet access etc.
RESOURCE SHARING
• Library provide platform for
resource sharing, networking and
collaboration among
researchers.
ACCESS TO JOURNALS AND BOOKS
• Library provide access to current peer reviewed journals and books from reputable publishers in virtually every area of study.
NEW TOOLS• Library consistently
provide tools to ease access and retrieval of information within and outside a library wall, i.e. OPAC, Abstract, Indexes etc.
Communication• Library
communicates and facilitates
current awareness and
selective dissemination of
information (SDI).
Our duty• Librarians give
support and professional advice to users through teaching, guidance and mentoring.
