    5. Purpose:To demonstrate the capability of the test system (using the subject procedure on the Test

    Sample) to be employed for Magnetic Particle Examination of welds and evaluating the test

    results in line with the requirements of Appendix 6 of ASME Section VIII Div. 1, as

    mandated in T-150 of ASME Section V and within the variable limits specified in Article 7 of

    ASME Section V, edition 2007.

    6. Examination method & Technique:Wet Continuous Color Contrast Magnetic Particle Examination, using AC Yoke

    magnetization technique with minimum pole spacing of 3 and maximum pole spacing of 8.

    7. Test Samples:Low-carbon Steel Plate Sample MC 455.

    SMAW Butt-welded joint.

    8. Surface condition of Test Samples:As-welded, with the test surface (including 1(25mm) all around) dry and free of any scale,

    grease, dirt, weld - flux, slag or spatter, paint, oil or other foreign matter.

    (Sample solvent cleaned before demonstration)

    9. Test Equipment:AC ELECTROMAGNETIC YOKE, Model: MY II; Srl. No.: 1639

    Make: GAMMATEC.

    10. Equipment Lifting Power Verification:Lifting power verified on 10 lbs (4.5Kg) certified steel block at 8 pole spacing for AC Yoke

    electromagnet. (Steel block Srl no. A973; calibrated)

    11. Test Material Group Applied:WFMT 1; (Fluorescent Ink: Magnaglo-14HF)

    12. Test Temperature at start: 270C(Measured with a digital calibrated thermometer Sr. No. 90540143)

    15. Method of Particle Application:By spraying

    14a.Magnetic Particle type:Fluorescent ink. 14HF oil based fluorescent MPI ink. Mfg: Magna-flux Corporation.

    16. Verification of Field Indication:Verified using Pie indicator/BC strips.

    17. Method of Excess particle removal:Not demonstrated.

    18. Test area overlap and rotation of Yoke:Complete coverage of test area was done by a minimum of 2 separate examinations on each

    area producing approximately perpendicular directions of magnetic lines. (By turning the

    yoke by 90 alternatively)

    19. Lighting and light intensity:Ultraviolet light; verified to be 1009 microwatts/ cm

    Minimum Light Intensity:1000 lux (day-light or artificial)

    Test surface temperature:

    Less than 500C

    (Acceptable maximum temperature 500C as per manufacturers recommendations)

    Personnel Qualification & Performance:

    INSPEC certified ASNT level II minimum and performance verified and attached.

    Records:

    As per INSPEC MT Report (D/61460 dated 26.02.2008), including minimum set-up data, and

    details of Test Results.
