新华网曾发表过一篇文章:“新

鲜空气若成奢侈品,GDP又有

何意义?”

PM2.5,现代医学上称为极端微细的粉

尘,吸入后能穿透毛细血管,导致心脑血管

疾病。我们当然清楚,PM2.5指数的居高不

下,是我们多年盲目追求GDP的沉重代价之

一。我们已经默认了经济有多发达,空气质

量就有多差这一现实。有时候,我们的呼吸

质量与我们的物质水平恰成反比,让人萌生

“逃离尘世”的念头。空气竟然变得比奢侈

品还要奢侈。

在中国,必须正视这种现实,空气质量

问题显然并非短期内能解决的问题。既然它

的症结源头在于更关乎国家的发展模式和经

济转型,那么,我们在短期内唯一可取的路

径就是“主动避让”了。

幸好,中国广袤的土地上,还有湖泊、

山川、峡谷可供我们避让漫天的浮尘。发展

商们早就把目光瞄向了退避尘霾的自然天

地,以他们敏锐的商业头脑继续满足着现代

中国人的消费需求——纯净的空气与原生态

的自然。

就在中国的大部分地区埋没于污染空气

的时候,三亚的空气质量始终为优。从三亚

市环境监测站获悉,2013年三亚全年空气质

量优良率为99%,清新宜人的空气四季常在。

笔者笑谈:“只要从空气质量上,就可预计

三亚在未来五年旅游度假业的巨大潜力。”

1992年起,三亚开始了它作为中国奢华

旅游度假地的开发。最早是亚龙湾,之后大

东海、三亚湾也随之崛起而名声远播,近年

来蓄势而发的海棠湾、清水湾、崖州湾、香

水湾等,乘着中国房地产业的热潮,蓬勃地

展开了各类高级度假旅游地产项目,三亚确

实后劲连连。

亚龙湾作为三亚旅游地中的“元老”,

21年前起在三亚建立了亚龙湾国家旅游度假

区。当中国的一线城市如上海和北京还只有

数家酒店水疗或小规模的城市水疗的时候,

这里是中国最早有水疗度假村的地方。老牌

的当属三亚万豪度假酒店、三亚亚龙湾红树

林度假酒店、金茂三亚丽思卡尔顿酒店、金

茂三亚希尔顿大酒店、三亚喜来登度假酒

店、三亚天域度假酒店、三亚亚龙湾假日度

假酒店、三亚亚龙湾铂尔曼度假酒店等,几

乎每一家都为推广中国式的水疗度假做出了

不小的贡献,而中国游客们,正是在亚龙湾

的这些酒店中受到了“水疗”启蒙的。

三亚湾,则紧挨三亚市区。游客出行便

捷,能体验到不少三亚老百姓的生活。三亚

湾的三亚文华东方酒店以其旖旎的热带风情

与出色的服务,成为了三亚湾度假的头牌。

大东海,月牙形的海湾,辽阔的海面晶

莹如镜,白沙、阳光、碧水、沙滩、绿树,

热带风光旖旎。三亚悦榕庄,半山半岛洲际

度假酒店,以及Minor国际集团旗下管理的

三亚半山半岛安纳塔拉度假酒店均落户于此

地。“私家游艇码头”VOLVO世界帆船港,

世界级建筑大师安藤忠雄打造海上音乐厅,

亚洲知名的鹿回头高尔夫球场(国际18洞,洞

洞见海,洞洞全灯光)展现的是现代而奢华的

生活方式。此外,半山半岛正投入巨资建设

中阜外康复医院占地约120亩,包括210个VIP

疗养床位,全部医师及管理人员均由北京阜

外医院国家级专家轮调,预计2014年正式投

入使用。

在三亚城市发展总体规划中,海棠湾

的定位是以发展科研、国际交流、旅游度假

及热带田园观光为主的生态城市组团,被预

留为城市远景发展备用地。三亚海棠湾康莱

德酒店,万达三亚海棠湾希尔顿逸林度假酒

店,三亚万丽度假酒店,开维·三亚海棠湾

凯宾斯基酒店,三亚海棠湾民生威斯汀度假

酒店先后进驻于此。2年前建成的301医院,

作为政要首脑的疗养院而令海棠湾再次被确

信是一块政府看好的“风水宝地”。

清水湾旅游开发项目的土地开发面积约

为2万亩。全中国最大规模的集体休闲旅游、

商务投资和居住的国际级海滨社区,雅居乐

海南清水湾项目曾于2008年3月横空出世。开

售当天,即录得逾8亿的销售,2年内成为全

国首屈一指的年销售近百亿的“百亿级”地

产旗舰项目。清水湾的海南雅居乐莱佛士酒

店也于去年九月起对外迎宾,SpaChina杂志

2013年峰会与颁奖礼也选址于此,将全三亚

最细最白的沙滩带给了客人们。

根据2012年数据,三亚接待过夜游客人

数1103万人次,旅游总收入190亿元,比前年

增长9.7%。

三亚度假村和水疗改变了中国的生活方式,

把中国人从“旅游”带到了“度假”,又再

提升到“养生度假”。而三亚的客人们,也

造就了三亚度假村必须拥有“水疗”的这一

格局。85%到三亚来旅游的客人,都会考虑至

少体验一次水疗。水疗中心已经成了三亚度

假村的重要组成部分之一,就好像到三亚的

客人也一定会追求海和沙滩一样,水疗中心

和度假村已经密不可分。

根据调查显示,在三亚水疗中心中,最

受亲睐的是防晒相关的疗程,67%的客户会尝

试晒后护理和防晒美白疗程。其次是单人放

松、排毒和解压的疗程,占了62%,通常包

括去角质和精油按摩。之后是双人项目,占

31%,新婚、情侣十分钟情于这类疗程,时间

通常在2个小时左右,包括面部与身体护理。

有19%的度假村能配合不同的水上运动来提供

放松和缓解运动后肌肉疼痛的疗程。但三亚

只有5%的水疗中心能把当地文化、健康传统

和习俗与水疗项目很好的结合起来,提供有

创意及有疗效的疗程。所有水疗中心尚未能

针对老年人和儿童定制专属疗程,但8成的度

假村都具备了亲子活动的场地或临时托儿服

务。客人男女比例基本相当,男性基本上会

选择90分钟至2小时的疗程。而女性则会尝试

2小时以上至半日的疗程。

调查还显示出在三亚旅游的中国客人

中,有23%表示1年会至少去一次,45%表示2

年内会去一次,但他们相当“花心”,只有

8%的游客们会选择入住同样的酒店3次或以

上。原因是中国客人希望不断有新的体验,

总是住同一个酒店则无法令其满足。所以也

可以说,三亚的很多酒店和度假村,都是在

做着一次性的中国游客生意。选择重复入住

的原因则是:对酒店的服务和品牌认同。

怎样才能持续保持新鲜感呢?服务、

特色、竞争力和性价比是最重要的,相信要

达到这些优势,水疗中心在一定程度上可以

为度假村加很多分。当然,我们也不排除一

些度假中心的特殊性,如能投其所好的满足

某些特殊群体:如明星,政要的私密度假需

求,或提供整形或医疗康复性质的度假。

三亚有件悲哀的事:水疗理疗师与酒店员工

人力资源处于“匮乏”的状态。某三亚五星

度假村一年内的人员变动达到了95%,甚至有

相关管理人员三个月半年就跳槽状况发生。

本来么,水疗度假酒店的兴起也是近20

年以来的事情,中国不像瑞士洛桑那样全民

都身怀“五星制度”服务绝技,拥有皇家传

承下来的贴身侍奉手段;也不像泰国那样天

生流淌着服务血液,笑容可掬且温顺体贴;

更做不到日本式的井然有序,细节规范标

准。中国在服务软件方面确实还未能够达到

与硬件设施相媲美地地步。当硬件标准、价

格都直线上升的时候,客人们的期望值也会

越来越高,除了对服务人员的素质与业务能

力有所要求以外,还会对要求酒店管理人员

们能以其高超的管理技巧和对业务特色、服

务方式,文化底蕴的创意,来给予自己无以

伦比的度假体验。

现在,几乎每个三亚度假村的水疗中心

都打造得美轮美奂,各有特色。于是在这种

情况下,客人对理疗师技能的要求,对疗程

品质、概念和效果的要求,对细节的要求,

均将决定该水疗中心的成败,从而影响到度

假村的成败。

中国员工最明白中国客人要什么,员工

在实际的日常业务中是直接传递开发商和管

理方双方理念与品牌水准的人。作为业主方

和管理方,在行业发展迅速的三亚,怎样才

能留住员工将会是一个不小的挑战。而作为

一个优秀的酒店行业员工,在一个岗位上的

坚守和钻研,才能获得真正的行业经验、人

脉,以及业界同行们的尊重。

好空气,好人力资源将最终决定美丽三

亚的未来发展,好在,未来是光明的。

Sanya Air and the FutureSanya, the southernmost seaside city of Hainan Island, is known as “The Oriental

Hawaii” or “China’s Phuket”. Sanya has the best air quality and most beautiful beachscapes in China. Here, you can have blue sea with white sand, quiet waves and

soft wind, hammocks strung between coconut trees, shells on a white beach, red clouds in the evening sky and a comfortable SPA. The charming tropical scenery

creates an ultimate tranquility for both body and mind.

Xinhua News Agency recently published

an article entitled “Fresh air becomes

a luxury. What does GDP even mean

any more?”

PM2.5 measures extremely fine dust.

Humane are at risk of cardiovascular disease

from breathing PM2.5 particles because they

could extravasate in capillaries. We all know

that the high PM2.5 index is one of the heavy

prices paid for pursuing GDP growth blindly.

The degree of the economy’s development is

inversely proportional to the air quality, which

is a problem we have admitted. Sometimes

when we think about it, the next idea is to

escape. Air becomes the most luxurious of

luxuries.

In China, we have to face up to the reality.

Air pollution is not a simple problem which can

be solved in a short time. Since the crux of the

issue is related to the whole country’s develop-

ment patterns and economic transition, all we

can do is to evade it.

Luckily, China has vast areas of lakes,

mountains and valleys to allow us to avoid a

sky full of dust. Investors have already turned

their eyes toward the natural world. With a

keen mind for business, they will find ways to

meet the needs of modern Chinese people-

fresh air and untouched Nature.

While many areas are buried under air pol-

lution, Sanya has kept a high grade air quality.

We learned from the environment monitoring

station in Sanya, from January 2013, the excel-

lent rate of atmospheric environment quality is

99% throughout the year. With great air quality,

there will be huge potential for Sanya’s travel

vacation industry in the coming five years.

From 1992, Sanya started to be developed

as a luxury travel and vacation destination.

The first location was Yalong Bay, followed by

Dadonghai and Sanya Bay. In recent years,

Haitang Bay, Clearwater Bay, Yazhou Bay and

Xiangshui Bay are evolving rapidly. Thanks

to China’s real estate craze, various upscale

tourism properties have flourished. Indeed, the

potential in Sanya is immense.

As a veteran of Sanya tourism, Yalong Bay

was built to be a National Tourism Resort 21

years ago. At that time, there were only a few

hotel spas and small day spas in China’s top

cities, such as Shanghai and Beijing. This was

the first place for spa resorts. The veteran

resorts include Sanya Marriott Resort & Spa,

Yalong Bay Mangrove Tree Resort, The Ritz

Carlton, Sanya, Hilton Sanya Resort & Spa,

Sheraton Sanya Resort, Horizon Resort & Spa,

Holiday Inn Resort Yalong Bay, Pullman Sanya

Yalong Bay Resort & Spa and more. Each of

them has contributed to improving the Chinese

model spa vacation. Chinese tourists became

spa guests and were enlightened in these spa

resorts in Yalong Bay.

Sanya Bay is next to the urban district of

Sanya. Tourists living here can enjoy great

convenience to travel and experience the life of

locals. In 2010, SpaChina Summit & Awards

was held at the Mandarin Oriental, Sanya.

More than 220 attendees came and celebrated

the grand event. A 3,200 sq.m. Spa Village

offers guests with outstanding spa concepts

and treatments. The professional service is

second to none.

Dadonghai, built on a crescent beach,

owns a vast calm patch of ocean. White

sands, bright sunshine, blue water, green veg-

etation as well as the unique tropic climate…

Banyan Tree Sanya, InterContinental Sanya

Resort and Anantara Sanya Resort & Spa are

located here. Moreover, the famous VOLVO

Sanya Serenity Marina is known well as a

“private marina”. The Sea Hall is designed by

world-renowned architect Mr. Tadao Ando.

Sanya Luhuitou Golf Course shows a modern

and luxury life style. Banshanbandao Group is

spending heavily on Fuwai Rehabilitation Hos-

pital, which covers about 120 acres with 210

VIP wellness beds. All the doctors and manag-

ers are rotated between national experts in

Beijing Fuwai Hospital. This project will come

online in 2014.

In the general programming of city devel-

opment in Sanya, Haitang Bay is target to an

ecological city amalgamation based on the

combination of research development, inter-

national communication and vacation in tropic

rural scenes. According to the long range city

development strategy, this area is reserved as

the city’s backyard. Meanwhile, many world-

famous resort brands have moved into Haitang

Bay, such as Conrad Sanya Haitang Bay, Dou-

bletree Resort by Hilton Sanya Haitang Bay,

Renaissance Sanya Resort & Spa, Kempinski

Hotel Haitang Bay and The Westin Sanya

Haitang Bay Resort. Two years ago, the 301

Military Hospital was completed as the officials’

sanatorium. Again, Haitang Bay is proved to be

a promising “awesome place”.

Tourism development projects in Clearwa-

ter Bay cover about 20,000 acres. In March,

2008, Gallop Gables launched a unique start

to their Clearwater luxury real estate project,

which is the largest international beach com-

munity for group leisure travel, business

investment or living. In two short years, Gal-

lop Gables developed into one of top selling

flagship projects with total annual turnover of

nearly ten billion. The Raffles Hainan, located in

Clearwater Bay, opened in September 2013.

The SpaChina Summit and Awards 2013 event

was held here, offering the best beach to all

honored guests.

In the whole year of 2012, Sanya served

11.03 million overnight visitors with total travel

sales of 19 billion yuan, up 9.7% from the pre-

vious year.

Spa & Sanya: InseparableThanks to the resorts and spas in Sanya,

Chinese lifestyles are changing from “tourism”

to “vacation”, then to “wellness tourism”. On

the other hand, tourists demand the resorts in

Sanya should be equipped with “spa”. 85% of

them will experience the spa service. Spa cen-

tres have become one of the most important

parts of Sanya resorts.

According to research by SpaChina Direc-

tory 2013, the most popular treatments are

about sunscreen: 67% of the guests use

sunscreen care or whitening sunscreen; 62%

of guests prefer services for single relaxation,

detox and stress relief, which involve exfoliation

and oil massage. The 2-hour couple treatment,

including facial and body care, is favored by

the new-married and lovers – 31%. 19% of the

resorts offer related services to relax guests and

relieve muscle pain during various water sports.

But only 5% of spa centers are integrated with

the local culture, with wellness traditions and

customize a part of spa programs to provide

creative and effective treatment. There are also

no tailored treatments for the aged and children.

But 80% of resorts set special venues for par-

ent-child activities and temporary child-minding

service. Similar percentages of men and women

enjoy the spa treatment. For the length of time,

men usually choose 90-120 min treatment but

women prefer more than 2 hours, even half-day

treatments.

The research shows that 23% of Chinese

tourists would go to visit Sanya once a year

at least. 45% make once-in-two-year visit

there. But they are “unfaithful”! Only 8% of

them would like to choose the same hotel for

accommodation three times or more. Chinese

guests are looking for different experiences.

Living in the same place sounds boring to

them. Thus, many Sanya hotels and resorts

think it is a one-shot deal with Chinese tourists.

The only reasons for repetition are the hotel

brand identity or contentment with service.

How do the hotels and resorts keep fresh?

The key points are the service, features, com-

petitiveness and cost performance. Spas help

to a certain extent. We don’t exclude some

resorts with specificity. They can meet specific

groups need, including privacy requirement for

celebrities and politicians as well as shaping

and medical rehabilitation requirements.

Human Resource & Development Sadly, Sanya is starved of spa therapists and

hotel staff. A resort there once suffered 95%

personnel change in one year. Even the related

managers switched after a few months at the

hotel.

In Lausanne, Switzerland, almost everyone

is skilled in 5-star and personalized service.

People in Thailand have the “service” culture,

and are cheerful, submissive and thoughtful.

Japanese service is famed worldwide and

orderly with standard details and regulation. As

for China’s service industry, there is still a long

way to go in terms of the countries mentioned

above. Actually, Chinese spas and resorts

have improved in the past 20 years with

advanced hardware facilities but still deficient in

service software. When the hardware criterion

and price are improving together, guests have

a higher expectation on service. They make

demands not only on service staff with good

quality and business capabilities but also want

hotel managers with excellent management

skills and creativity on hotel features, service

patterns and culture as well. Only then can the

vacation experience be guaranteed.

Now, nearly every spa center in the Sanya

resorts is gorgeous and distinctive. With such

an environment, the success of a spa is attrib-

uted to guests’ demands on details, therapist

skill as well as treatment quality, concept

and effect, which all have an influence on the

resort’s successful operations too.

Chinese staff know well what Chinese

guests need. In daily services, they are the

persons who directly deliver brand concept

from investors and managers to guests. For

the owner and manager, it is a big challenge to

keep employees during the fast-growing devel-

opment in Sanya. To be an excellent employee

in the hotel industry, only by sticking to your

post can you hope to get real work experience,

networks and respect from colleagues.

Fresh air and adequate human resources

are the determining factors for the future of

Sanya. Fortunately, the future is bright.

三亚,在经济快速增长的背后,

隐 患 尚 未 祛 除 。 俄 罗 斯 游 客

曾 经 是 三 亚 的 支 柱 游 客 之

一,2005年开启的莫斯科到三亚的直飞航班

见证了这一俄罗斯客人在三亚旅游的高峰时

期。但去年年底起,俄罗斯游客已有减少的

苗头,仔细查访,原来已经转战其他魅力阳

光沙滩。回头看中国,也有一部分以中产阶

级为代表的游客选择了性价比更高的泰国、

菲律宾,或更具异国风情,或海更蓝、天更

广的马尔代夫、毛里求斯、济州岛、冲绳

岛、夏威夷等等。

笔者记得多年前采访一些游客询问去三

亚旅游的原因之一是:“不需要签证”。对

于有经济能力一年能来一次三亚度假的客人

来说,很显然这个“不需要签证”时代已经

结束了。三亚面对的不再是纵向与中国其他

旅游度假目的地的比较,而是全球舞台的较

量。

当然,在三亚的发展中,“水疗度假

村”只是其中很小的一个部分。一些建立在

度假村周边的别墅、产权酒店公寓、高级公

寓,才是最大带动GDP的三亚STYLE。

当五星度假村进驻于一个空气纯净的海

湾后,四周的土地与其上建起的房地产也某

种意义上迅速地具备了与“五星”比肩的商

业价值;当“GUCCI进驻”、“智能社区”

、“国际学校”等字样成为了这些房地产

的“宣言”之后,中国的富裕阶层们争相为

这些“尚未兑现”的概念埋单。试想,一个

入住率不超过20%的社区,如何可能获得国际

奢侈品品牌的青睐而开出个旗舰店呢?在一

个海湾只有一个小商店卖日用品的状况下,

又怎么可能有个国际学校?三亚的免税店犹

如一个过季产品大卖场,奢侈品所要传递的

与客户互相之间的欣赏与共鸣,被批发白菜

萝卜似的践踏了。国际乎?奢侈乎?不免让

人搔首无语。

三亚的旅游带动了旅游地产的价位,

快速的经济发展也导致商铺租金水涨船高,

物价也跟着飞速上涨,游客旅游成本及本

地居民的消费成本也在迅猛增长。成本的增

加也就导致矛盾的产生,某些商家的商业诚

信在商业环境的改变中缺失,原因之一就是

三亚商业发展速度远远超过商家预期。但有

时候,却也不是存心想要失去诚信,而是因

为缺乏人才而心有余力不足。这不单单是三

亚,也是全中国水疗与酒店度假村所需要共

同思考的问题。

Different OpinionsTo be International or Luxury?

There are some defects hiding behind

the fast-growing economy of Sanya.

In the past five years, Russian tourists

have become a significant part of Sanya tour-

ism. The direct flights from Moscow to Sanya,

launched in 2005, were a witness to the Rus-

sian visit peak in Sanya, but it seems to be

changing now. From the end of last year, the

number of Russian tourists is falling as they

have been attracted to other sunny beaches. As

for Chinese tourists, a lot of middle-class people

prefer more cost-effective destinations, such as

Thailand and the Philippines. Maldives, Mauri-

tius, Jejuland, Okinawa and Hawaii also have an

exotic style and beautiful seas and skies.

Years ago, I asked tourists why they chose

to travel to Sanya. One simple reason was NO

VISA. But for those who are able to afford to

visit Sanya once a year, I think, the days when

NO VISA wins are over. Sanya’s challenge is

no longer a contest with other domestic tour

destinations or resorts. It has been trans-

formed into a global battle.

Certainly, the “spa resort” concept only

takes a very small proportion of the develop-

ment of Sanya. Villas around the resorts, the

property hotels and upscale apartments form

the “Sanya STYLE”, which greatly drives GDP

growth.

When a 5-star resort moves into a fresh

bay, the surrounding buildings attain a 5-star

commercial value, to some degree. The real

estate investors are clever to promote their

properties with declarations that “GUCCI Is

Coming Soon”, “Intelligent Community” and

“International School”. The rich of China will

accept willingly, it seems, and pay for these

unfulfilled concepts. Just imagine, how does

a community with less than 20% occupancy

attract an international luxury brand to launch

a flagship store? If in a bay, there is only one

store to offer daily use products for local peo-

ple, why would investors choose such a place

to build an international school? The duty-free

shop in Sanya looks like a hypermarket offering

off-season products. Luxuries are wholesaled

like vegetables. Where is the luxury of the luxu-

ries? Is it International or Luxury? The status

quo sounds worrying…

The tourism industry of Sanya drives the

tourism properties. Rapid economic growth

results in a lot of uneven development: rents,

prices, travelers’ costs and local residents’

costs. The rising prices cause friction. Some

businesses lose commercial integrity during

the change of the whole business environ-

ment, because the speed of development far

exceeds their expectations. But sometimes,

their actions are not intentional but because of

a shortage of good staff. It is also a common

problem which all Chinese spas and resorts

should consider.

2010年,斯坦福国际研究所(原斯坦福

研究院)在一份题为“养生旅游,医疗

旅游:谁更适合水疗?”的报告中发

现,全球1.9万亿美元的康体市场中,养生旅

游占据1,060亿美元的市场份额,超过医疗旅

游500亿美元的两倍以上。

那么,为什么人们总要想方设法去遥远

的户外寻求养生之道呢?其中一个原因就是

自然界本身就有利于人类健康的恢复与细胞

Twitter调查人们分别在家里和户外时的满足

在小范围内生活的人,更喜欢用一些幸福乐

观的词语。”

事实上,从中国传统来讲,这算不上

新鲜事儿。公元四世纪,诗人、文学家陶渊

明,后人称之为陶潜(365-427),在四十岁的

时候辞官返乡。陶潜,在充满传奇色彩的中

国东南部江西庐山开启了他的悠然生活。他

选择了诗歌、农耕、家庭、友谊、醇酒,这

些都是他引以为傲的陶氏生活。

陶潜的生活并不像隐士那样充满孤独或

者与世隔绝。相反,他带给今天的我们一种

我们推崇的慢食运动可以追溯至一千三百多

年前的公元七世纪,著名的医学家、药物学

家孙思邈主张将食物作为预防和治疗疾病的

第一道人体防线。

在这个快餐盛行的年代,亚洲比以往任

何时候更需要借鉴孙思邈的医道。2012年,

一份针对新加坡华人饮食调查显示,与很少

食用快餐的人相比,经常吃西式快餐的人更

容易患上Ⅱ型糖尿病或死于心脏病。一周至

少吃两次快餐的人患糖尿病和心脏病的概率

分别增加了27%和56%。

2010年《联合国纪事》指出:“尽管健

康的生活方式会带来显而易见的好处,但只

有小部分成年人会遵循这样的生活规律,事

实上,这个数字还在持续下降之中。更不幸

的是,健康与生活方式之间的关联很少被公

众意识到。适度且有效的生活方式调整可对

个人与整体社会健康水平的提高产生相当大

的影响。”

孙思邈的想法其实比联合国的意见早

了一千多年。他主张:“安身之本,必资于

食;救疾之速,必凭于药”。对饮食安全有

独特的见解,提出了好的饮食习惯,比如细

嚼慢咽,不吃补品异物和油腻物,避免生

吃,不吃冷食,不酗酒等。他建议饭后喝水

漱口,散步。这些都能适用于我们今天的健

康知识。

根据孙思邈先生对于气功和健身锻炼的

建议,一英国团体组织了气功、太极之旅,

来到中国著名的历史古迹和风景名胜进行深

入学习探索。泰山在中国古代被称为五岳之

尊,现在被列为联合国科教文组织世界遗产

之一。Healing Tao Britain带领太极和气功旅

游团到泰山老子祠堂中来实践这一传统的艺

术,在古老的悬崖边拜读道家的经典著作。

这样,在游历古代神圣遗址之时将传统锻炼

Travelling for Wellness & Tradition

The simple rural life is driving new directions in wellness tourism – towards not only spas, but to food and health traditions, adventure and rural settings. By Prof Gerard Bodeker

In the 2010 report Wellness Tourism and

Medical Tourism: Where Do Spas Fit?, SRI

International (formerly the Stanford Research

Institute) found that within the $1.9 trillion

global wellness market, the global wellness

tourism market was $106 billion - more than

double that of medical tourism at $50 billion.

So why are people travelling away from

home to seek wellness? One of the answers

lies in the value of Nature itself and the renew-

ing effect it has on us. New research from Exe-

ter University in the UK has found that when

people live in urban areas with more green

space, they tend to report greater wellbeing

than city dwellers who don't have parks, gar-

dens, or other green space nearby. Travelling

to a more natural setting may be a very natural

thing for humans to do, instinctively seeking

happiness in nature – a foundation stone of

wellbeing.

In another recent study, a team of psy-

chologists in the USA used Twitter to study the

happiness content of people’s tweets when

they were near or far from home. Overall, the

happiest tweets were those composed far

from home. As the researchers put it: “Individu-

als with a large radius use happier words than

those with a smaller pattern of life.”

This is nothing new to Chinese tradition. In

the fourth century, the poet and scholar Tao

Yuanming, later known as Tao Qian (365-427),

resigned his post as a civil administrator at

the age of forty four years and moved with

his family to the countryside. Here, in full view

of the legendary Lushan Mountain in Jiangxi

province in southeastern China, Tao Qian took

up a simple yet cultivated life. He chose a life of

farming, family, friendships, wine, poetry and,

above all, a connection with the deep pulse of

life – the Tao.

Tao Qian’s life was not of hermit-like soli-

tude or withdrawal from the world. Rather,

it was what today we would see as a return

to simple values, found in such trends as the

Slow-Food Movement, which favors regional

lifestyles and cuisine, and encourages farming

of agricultural products typical of the local eco-

system (www.slowfood.com). In modern day

China, Tao Qian has become an emblem for a

life lived with simplicity in Nature.

Tea JourneysIncreasingly this pull of simple rural life is driving

new directions in wellness tourism – towards

not only spas, but to food and health traditions,

adventure and rural settings.

Tea, one of the most health-giving bever-

ages from Nature and the second most-widely

consumed beverage after water, is clearly a

perfect focus for a wellness adventure.

In the United States, Whole Foods, the

supermarket chain for natural and organic

foods, has launched Whole Journeys (www.

wholejourneys.com), which focuses on local

cultures, regional cuisines and the culture of

food. In China, their journey takes guests along

the ancient Tea Horse Road. Less well-known

than the famous Silk Road, the Tea Horse

Road travels from the tropical tea-growing

province of Sichuan all the way to Lhasa in

Tibet at an altitude of 3,500 meters.

their original source in the misty forests of

southern Yunnan province of Xishuangbanna,

where tea trees can be over a thousand years

old. Along the way, ethnic minorities such as

shelter, goods and support for the caravans

along the Tea Horse Road, receive guests into

their homes and share local cuisine and tea

culture.

Bringing the ancient journey to life, is a new

and beautiful photographic narrative by Nation-

al Geographic’s award winning photographer,

getting out into nature’s remote places, as well

as imbibing the world’s freshest and best tea

from its cultural custodians, would revive the

most jaded city dweller’s spirits.

Wellness Cuisine, Meditation and SpaOne wellness journey from the USA to Italy

combines a love for natural and organic foods

with a travel routine that encompasses medita-

tion, spa and local music and arts traditions.

The tour also features exchanges with sustain-

able farmers, artisan producers, and chefs

“along with the experience of gorgeous country-

side, art, and time for your meditation program,

biking, hiking, golf, spa treatments.” Merging

meditation and spa with a whole foods and

adventure tour is a new direction in wellness

tourism - one to watch. Guests on this journey,

organised by Maharishi University of Manage-

ment, also visit a bio-dynamic herb farm and

Slow Food’s protected local trout reserve in the

rural province of Bologna (mum.edu/italy).

Wellness Food and Chinese TraditionAnticipating the Slow Food Movement by at

least 1,300 years, the 7th century C.E. master

physician and medical scholar, Sun Si Miao

favoured food as the first line of intervention in

both preventing and treating disease.

Asia is in need of Sun’s advice more

urgently now than ever before, with fast foods

on the rise throughout the region. A 2012

study on Singaporean Chinese, reported that

those with relatively frequent intake of Western-

style fast food items had an increased risk of

developing type 2 diabetes mellitus and dying

of coronary heart disease by comparison

with others who reported little or no fast food

consumption. The diabetes odds increased

by 27% and heart disease risk by 56% among

those who ate fast food at least twice a week.

The United Nations Chronicle reported in

2010 that: “Despite the well-known benefits

of a healthy lifestyle, only a small proportion

of adults follow such a routine; in fact, the

numbers are declining. Unfortunately, there

is very little public awareness of the associa-

tion between health and lifestyle. Modest but

achievable adjustments to lifestyle behaviours

are likely to have a considerable impact at the

individual and population level.”

Predating the UN’s view by more than a

millennium, Sun Simiao took the view that ‘to

be skilled at nurturing one’s nature is to treat

disease before it arises’. He paid attention

to dietary hygiene, urging such good eating

habits as thorough chewing, slow swallowing,

no hyper-nutritious or greasy food, thorough

cooking, avoiding raw and cold foods and

excessive drinking. He advised rinsing the

mouth and taking a walk after a meal - all

of which are in line with present-day health

knowledge.

Traditional Exercise and Wellness TourismWalking after a meal was just one part of Sun’s

recommendation for regular exercise. Observ-

ing the principle that "running water does not

stagnate and a moving hinge does not rust",

Sun prescribed daily breathing exercise (Qi

gong), massage and such physical exercise as

growing and collecting medicinal plants.

Following Sun’s advice on Qi gong and

exercise, one British group organizes Qi gong

and Tai Chi tours to places of natural and his-

toric importance in China. Taishan Mountain,

one of the five sacred mountains in traditional

China, is now a UNESCO heritage site. Healing

Tao Britain takes tour groups of Tai Chi and

Qi gong practitioners to Taishan Mountain to

practice their traditional arts at the site of Lao

Tzu’s ascension and beside the ancient cliff-

face writings of Taoist tradition, thereby com-

bining the experience of ancient and sacred

sites with traditional exercise and nature tour-

ism (ww.healingtaobritain.com).

Elsewhere, Chinese tour groups offer visits

to some of China’s most interesting medicinal

plant gardens and cultivation sites. Sichuan,

well-known as the province with the richest

supply of medicinal herbs, is the starting point

for a two-week tour of medicinal plant gardens

and forests sites, travelling to botanical gar-

dens and forest sites throughout Sichuan and

Yunan, learning about and discovering China’s

rich medicinal heritage (http://www.4panda.

The FutureIndia’s ‘Incredible India’ tourism campaign has

been immensely successful in branding travel

to India around yoga and wellness themes. A

similar prospect is there for China and awaits

development. What will also need developing

is a comprehensive response from industry

and government to the potential of wellness

tourism, linked with China’s cultural traditions,

accompanied by the necessary standard of

service and accommodation to support this.

Tea, traditional forms of exercise, natural desti-

nations of beauty and spiritual importance, and

China’s rich medicinal heritage, are all ingredi-

ents for what could become one of the most

exciting wellness tourism equations on offer.

早在 五 千 年 前 , 中 医 就 提 出 了

免疫力是抵御外来疾病的第一

要务,黄帝内经记载“正气存

内,邪不可干”。正气,系指人体的功能活动

和抗病能力;邪气则为一切致病因素的总称。

中医学认为,疾病的发生、传播及预

防,主要取决于正气的盛衰。所谓正气失

调,一是指正气的不足,包括机体功能衰弱

以及维持这种功能所需的物质亏虚,概括为

一个“虚”字。二是指正气的壅滞与逆乱。

包括各种致病因素阻滞人体气机,导致功能

障碍,概括为一个“郁”字。而气血是人体

生命活动的基本物质,无论气血的虚衰与郁

滞,都会影响到人的功能状态。这亦即明代

著名医学家张景岳(1563-1640)所谓“气之在

人,和则为正气,不和则为邪气”的道理。

当人体长期处于疲劳状态时,免疫力

即会低下,即正气“亏虚”,常引起的症状

有大便溏泄,神疲乏力,感冒频犯,身形虚

胖等;当心理压力过大时,则产生免疫力失

调,即气机“郁滞”,脏腑功能失调,常引

起便秘,痛经,失眠,胸胁胀痛,周身无名

疼痛等。

因此,中医学从“正气”立论,注重保

养正气,保持正常的功能以预防疾病;伤病

后,则强调扶助正气,疏通气机的运行,以促

进功能的恢复。举凡针灸、推拿、药物、食疗

等,都是传统医学保养正气的有效措施。

要保养正气,一方面是补益脏腑的气

血阴阳,增强物质基础,克服机体功能的衰

退;另一方面,祛除继发性致病因素,通调

经络,流畅气血。因此,“补虚疏郁”是中

医康复学促进病残者功能恢复的基本原则。

调动人体自身的恢复和疗愈能力,是传统中

医学的要素之一。

运用针灸保健防病在公元前就已有记

载,唐代名医孙思邈(581-682)的《千金要

方》中就有记载:“凡人吴蜀地游官,体上

常须三两处灸之,勿令疮暂差,则瘴疠温疟

毒气,不能着人也,故吴蜀多行灸法。”明

确指出艾灸可预防时疫传染病。后世医家在

针灸预防疾病方面也做了大量工作,尤其是

近年来,在针灸防治疾病的研究中,通过刺

激某些腧穴,观察人体或实验动物外周血

等处的免疫细胞如T淋巴细胞、粒细胞、单

核——巨噬细胞系统、红细胞、自然杀伤细

胞等,及免疫因子如细胞因子、免疫球蛋

白、补体系统等免疫指标并进行分析。大量

的临床观察和动物实验表明,针灸能够从整

体上双向调节机体的免疫防御系统,增强正

常机体免疫功能,提高低下的免疫能力,抑

制亢进的免疫反应,使机体免疫作用达到新

的动态平衡和内外环境的协调稳定。

许多SPA疗程同样在依托中医理论的条

件下,有着提高人体自身免疫力的作用,例

如一些头部及躯体的放松手法,技师轻柔的

抚触可以舒缓积聚在人体的压力和疲劳,并

令客人身心愉悦。一些指压手法或淋巴排毒

的疗程,则可以通过对经络穴位的较强刺

激,使人体释放多种免疫因子,疏经通络,

振奋阳气,使得气机通泰。

一些减压舒缓的SPA疗程也可以起到辅

助治疗和缓解疼痛麻木的作用。例如现代社

会压力令年轻人好发带状疱疹和面瘫。在中

医范畴中,这些问题都是由于正气亏虚,外

感时疫所致,除了正常治疗以外,还需以放

松解压为辅。

以中医理论为指导,结合现代科学研

究,以“保健穴”足三里、气海、关元,合

谷等为主穴,根据每个人的实际情况,不断

扶正,适时攻邪,随症治疗,灵活加减穴

位,施以针刺或艾灸等治疗方法,能够起到

调整人体机能状态,提高免疫力,尤其在夏

Stored Positive Energy Defeats Negative Energy

Doctors of TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) agree that the best way to keep illness away is through improving immunity by living harmoniously with Nature, having a regular life and doing more

exercise in order to store more positive energy in the body and provide defense from sickness

As early as five thousand years ago, doc-

tors pointed to immunity improvement

as the first thing to consider when tack-

ling the problem of defending against illness.

As the saying goes, “with positive energy in

the body, illness can be defended”. “The Inner

Canon of Huangdi” explains positive energy as

the activity of human organ functions and the

ability to fight against sickness, while negative

energy refers to all the pathogenic factors.

According to TCM, the occurrence, trans-

mission and prognosis of disease mainly

depends on the condition of positive energy in

the body. The notion of positive energy mal-

function can be explained from two aspects.

The first is the weaker function of the body

organs and of supporting substances. This

entire phenomenon can be considered as

“weakness”. The other is the stagnation and

disturbance of positive energy, which can be

described as “stagnation”. The qi and blood

are the basic substances of life and affect

organ functions when either of the above two

mentioned conditions happens. This coincides

with what Zhang Jingyue, the famous medical

scientist in the Ming Dynasty, said: “The energy

is in the body and when all are functions well, it

is positive energy; otherwise, it is negative.”

When fatigued for a long period, people

tend to have lower immunity abilities which can

also be considered a shortage of positive ener-

gy, leading to symptoms like diarrhea, tired-

ness etc. When facing too much psychological

pressure, men will have immunity disorder

problems, that is “stagnation" with the symp-

toms of the malfunction of viscera, followed by

constipation, dysmenorrheal, insomnia, chest

pain and other pains.

Hence, TCM theory is built from the per-

spective of “positive energy”, encouraging

people to maintain positive energy in order to

keep organs working normally and preventing

the body from getting disease. After an illness,

more positive energy is needed and should be

circulated smoothly in the body in an effort to

stimulate recovery. Acupuncture, massage,

medicine, food healing and so on are effec-

tive measures in keeping the positive energy

according to the view of TCM.

Regarding means of positive energy main-

tenance, one should do as follows: One is to

increase the substances that are beneficial to

the viscera, thus enhancing the healthy body

condition. The other is to eliminate secondary

pathogenic factors, smooth the body regulat-

ing system, qi and blood. Thus, “supplement

what is needed in the body and smooth the

regulating system” are the basic principles in

dealing with the body organs’ recovery.

Using acupuncture as the way of keeping

health and prevent illness has already been

documented for more than 2,000 years and

such evidence can be found in the Valuable

Prescriptions for Emergencies, written by

the famous doctor of the Tang Dynasty, Sun

Simiao (581-682). The book says that acu-

puncture is rather popular in Shu Kingdom

for people use it as a method to cure malaria

and also it claims that it does have effect in

preventing communicable disease. Much

research has been conducted on the preven-

tion of disease using acupuncture by medical

scientists, especially in recent years. In some

studies, by stimulating the acupoints, the

doctors observe and analyze immunity cells,

like T-lymphocyte, granulocyte, mononuclear-

mononuclear phagocyte system, red blood

cells, natural killer cell and the immune fac-

tors, such as the cytokines, immune globulin,

complement system and other immune indice

around the peripheral blood area in the human

body and the experimented animals. Plenty of

clinical research and animal experiments show

that acupuncture can enhance normal human

immunity functions, stimulate hyperreactive

immunity and restrict the hyperreactive ones,

aiming to have the immunity system reach a

new dynamic balance and maintain stability

with both the inner and outer environment.

Applying the theory of TCM, many SPA

treatments have the function of improving

immunity. For instance, the technique of relax-

ing the head and the body cannot only dimin-

ish pressure and fatigue stored in the body, but

also bring joy to the spirit by the tender touch

of the masseuse. The therapy of lymphatic

detoxifying and shiatsu can release many types

of immunity factors, regulate the body system

and improve positive energy by stronger stimu-

lation to the meridian points.

SPA treatments which contribute to pres-

sure reduction also have the benefit of assist-

ing healing and pain elimination. In modern

society, zoster and facioplegia can be regularly

seen among people because of high pressure.

Seen from the aspect of TCM, they are caused

by a shortage of positive energy. Apart from

ordinary cures, relaxation to reduce pressure

should be considered as well.

The condition of human organ functions

and improvements in immunity can be realized

through the following method of applying TCM

as guidance, combining modern technology

and treating the health points of zusanli, qihai

and guanyuan as the main acupoints. People

need to eliminate negative energy in a timely

way, cure disease as it occurs, reduce or add

acupoints and have acupuncture or moxibus-

tion as the healing method which in summer,

especially, can be used to help regulate the

body system and maintain positive energy to

deal with problems of grain of skin and the tex-

ture of subcutaneous flesh.

Life and work can be seen as an attitude.

The good principle to handle affairs, an appro-

priate amount of exercise and a balanced diet

are ways to improve immunity. In one or two

hours’ SPA treatment, people can obtain a

soul-body communication with the therapist,

remove distracting thoughts and pressure. All

these are the best interpretation of keeping

good health from TCM theory.
