1ST SUNDAY OF ADVENT 1° DOMINGO DE ADVIENTO

First Sunday of Advent

Our opening prayer for this Sunday is:

Grant your faithful, we pray, almighty God, the resolve to run forth to meet your Christ with righteous deeds at his coming, so that, gathered at his right hand, they may be worthy to possess the heavenly Kingdom. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.

The Collect (Opening Prayer) for this First Sunday of Advent is an ancient prayer that first appeared in the Gelasian Sacramentary of the eighth century. It was not in the Roman Missal of 1962, but was restored to use after the Second Vatican Council. This prayer captures the imagination for it provides us with an image of the People of God running toward Christ, doing so by our good works, in hope of being gathered at his right hand.

We pray for resolve and we pray that we might one day “be worthy to possess the heavenly Kingdom.” During this Advent Season, we long for the second coming of Christ and we long for the fullness of redemption that Christ offers us by his dying and rising. Yet, our world has not been completely redeemed, and with this knowledge we call upon God to strengthen us, to give us the desire to make straight the path of our lives by acts of charity and good works.

Lord Jesus, strengthen my resolve to run toward you and help me to live a life of charity so that I may meet you every day in the faces of others.

Sacrament of Reconciliation

As we begin a new liturgical year and the season of Advent we hear the invitation of the Lord Jesus to come and be reconciled. We will celebrate a communal celebration of Penance with individual confessions here at Christ the Good Shepherd on Tuesday, December 1 beginning at 6 p.m. We will have a number of priests present to assist with the confessions. During this season there may only be one priest here at CGS hearing confessions so that we may assist others with their penance services.

We offer the Sacrament of Reconciliation every Thursday from 6—6:45 p.m. and on Saturdays from 4—5:15 p.m. During the Advent season (December 3, 10 and 17) we will offer an additional time for Reconciliation on Thursday mornings from 9—10 a.m. The confessionals are located in the chapel. Other area penance services include: St. Simon and Jude at 7 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 14 and St. Ignatius at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 15. Christ the Good Shepherd come to our aid. Fr. Primer Domingo de Adviento

La oración de apertura para este domingo es:

Señor, despierta en nosotros el deseo de prepararnos a la venida de Cristo con la práctica de las obras de misericordia para que, puestos a su derecha el día del juicio, podamos entrar al Reino de los cielos. Por nuestro Señor Jesucristo, tu Hijo, que vive y reina contigo en la unidad del Espíritu Santo y es Dios, por los siglos de los siglos, Amén.

La oración colecta (oración de apertura) para este primer domingo de Adviento es una oración antigua que apareció por primera vez en el Sacramentario Gelasiano del siglo VIII. No estaba en el Misal romano de 1962, pero fue restaurado para utilizase después del Concilio Vaticano II. Esta oración capta la imaginación, nos proporciona una imagen del pueblo de Dios corriendo hacia Cristo, haciéndolo a través de nuestras buenas obras, con la esperanza de estar unido a su mano derecha.

Oramos por resolver y te pedimos que algún día podamos "ser dignos de poseer el reino de los cielos." Durante este tiempo de Adviento, tiempo de la segunda venida de Cristo, con plenitud de la redención que Cristo nos ofrece en su muerte y resurrección. Sin embargo, nuestro mundo no ha sido redimido y con este conocimiento le pedimos a Dios que nos fortalezca, que nos conceda el deseo de realizar un camino recto para nuestras vidas con obras de caridad y buenas obras.

Señor Jesús, fortalecer mi determinación de correr hacia ti y ayúdame a vivir una vida de caridad para que yo pueda encontrarme contigo cada día en los rostros de los demás.

Sacramento de Reconciliación

Al comenzar un nuevo año litúrgico y el tiempo de Adviento escuchamos la invitación del Señor Jesús, venga y sea reconciliado. Celebraremos la celebración comunitaria de la Penitencia con confesiones individuales aquí en Christ the Good Shepherd, el martes 1 de Diciembre a las 6pm. Tenemos varios sacerdotes presentes para ayudar con las confesiones. Esta temporada tendremos un sólo sacerdote aquí en CGS escuchando confesiones, para que podamos ayudar a otros con sus servicios de penitencia.

Ofrecemos el Sacramento de Reconciliación cada jueves de 6pm — 6:45pm y los sábados a de 4pm — 5:15pm. Durante la temporada de Advenimiento (el 3 de diciembre, 10 y 17)

ofreceremos un horario adicional para la Reconciliación los jueves por la mañana de 9:00am — 10:00am. Los confesionarios están localizados en la capilla. Otros servicios de penitencia en el área incluyen: Saint Simon y Jude a las 7pm, el lunes 14 de diciembre y Saint Ignatius a las 7pm el martes 15 de diciembre.

MORNING OF PRAYER / ORACION POR LA MANANA

Saturday, December 5, you are cordially invited to an Advent Morning of Prayer to be held here at Christ the Good Shepherd. The morning will begin with Mass at 8:30 a.m. and end at noon. There will be two talks with time for quiet reflection. This is a wonderful way to enter into the season of Advent and of preparation for the Christmas Season.

Pancake Breakfast - Operation Military Embrace! Sunday, December 6th

The Art and Environment ministry needs many hands to assist with the preparation of the church, particularly at the time of major feasts such as Advent & Christmas. All parishioners who have an interest in preparing our parish home for our liturgical celebrations are invited to participate in this ministry by contacting Cristina Patetta at 281-376-6831 ext.323 or cristina.patetta@cgsccdogh.org

Social Ministry: November 28th starting at the 5:30 PM mass - Northwest Assistance Ministry (NAM) toy bags will be at all the doors. Each bag will contain a wish list from a child. NAM assists about 2000 children for Christmas and children ages 8 to 12 have the least returned bags every year. Please consider taking a bag and filling for a child in our area.

Also, starting at the 5:30 mass on November 28th we will have approximately 200 families from Holy Name in need of a Christmas food baskets. The names will be available in the Narthex along with suggested food items. The baskets will be loaded on the truck December 19 for delivery to Holy Name on December 20th. Thank you in advance for your generosity .

Desayunos de Pancakes - ¡Apoye a la Operación Militar! Domingo, 6 de Diciembre

El Ministerio de Arte y Medio Ambiente necesita muchas manos para ayudar con la decoración de la Iglesia, sobre todo durante las temporadas de Adviento y Navidad. Ministerio Social: el 28 de noviembre a partir de la Misa de 5:30pm tendremos las bolsas disponibles para juguetes que ayudan a Northwest Assistance Ministriy (NAM) estas bolsas estarán disponibles en todas las puertas. Cada bolsa contiene una lista de deseos de un niño. NAM ayuda a cerca de 2000 niños para la Navidad y los niños en las edades de 8-12 son los que menos regresan las bolsas cada año. Por favor considere una bolsa y a un niño en nuestra área.

También, a partir de la Misa de 5:30pm del 28 de noviembre, tenemos unas 200 familias de la parroquia Holy Name para proporcionar canastas de comida en Navidad. Los nombres estarán disponibles en el Nártex junto con alimentos sugeridos. Las canastas serán cargadas en el camión el 19 de diciembre para la entrega a Holy Name el 20 de diciembre.
