     E   v   e   n   t      A   d   DESCRIPTION: This is a colorful full-bleed

event ad to promote a charity art auction usingonly Microsoft Word.

     PROGRAMS USED: Microsoft Word.

     DATE: January 31, 2016.

    COURSE: COMM 130-04

    INSTRUCTOR: Sister LeFevre

OBJECTIVES:· Comprehend image sizing · Find, scan and import a high-quality image. · Create a full-bleed design. · Choose a color scheme and typeface(s) that work for your

message and audience. · Learn to use only Word design features without using anyAdobe programs, including Photoshop.

Process: I decided to focus on the image first then add everythingelse later. I wanted a green image, at least an image that has a lotof green into it. I added the title next, deciding on a colonial font to showcase the fact that this is taking place in central Virginia, and that the image looks a bit like the Appalachians back home. Iabsolutely made sure to make the Title on top of the lighter spots

on the clouds to add a nice balance to the rain clouds on the left.I ended up decreasing the spacing between “Charity Art Auction” to make the title look cleaner. The Ribbon wasn’t part of the initialdraft instead it was a triangle of the same color on the bottom right to try to balance out all the green and Lime on the left. The Triangle is supposed to look like it was added on later and notpart of the painting, hence the shadows on the ribbon. I ended up switching it over to a ribbon to add more flow to the design.

DESCRIPTION: An Inspirational montage made by blending in 2 or more images.

     PROGRAMS USED: Photoshop

     DATE: February 18, 2016

    COURSE: COMM 130-04

    INSTRUCTOR: Sister LeFevre

OBJECTIVES:· Learn to use photoshop layers · Learn to blend images seamlessly, using the masking tool · Use filters · Apply typography principles

PROCESS: First I added in the background of the sky and flipped it vertically after that I added in President Uchtdorf’simage and flipped the image horizontally then added in theplane and used the clone stamper tool to remove the airline name, and the name of the plane then I flipped it horizontallyafter which I cropped the original image of the plane’s nameand put it on the flipped plane’s image and used the color replacement tool to make the change unnoticeable. I used thecolor replacement tool on Uchtdorf’s tie to make it blueand I

used the levels tool to bring out more color, contrast and toimprove the quality of Uchtdorf’s image Used the sharpen toolon Uchtdorf’s image to increase quality. I a mask to Uchtdorf’simage and the plane and used 3% opacity and 100% flow to blend them to the background. I then focused on Uchtdorf’s hand to remove any evidence of blurring. And finally I ended up re-positioning and changing the size of the text numerous times, until I settled on increasing the size and bolding only “good works” and “salvation”

     P   h   o   t   o   d   e   s   i   g   n   DESCRIPTION: A demonstration of goodphotography and image editing skills, and to implement color scheme effectively.

     PROGRAMS USED: Photoshop.

     DATE: February 7, 2016

    COURSE: COMM 130-04

    INSTRUCTOR: Sister LeFevre

OBJECTIVES:· Learn basic photography skills. · Choose and effectively use a color scheme. · Use a digital camera to take a quality image. · Adjust image levels, saturation, color balance, sharpen tool ·  Size and crop the image, then place on an 8.5×11 page layout. · Use repeating graphic elements in Photoshop. · Print with full-bleed margins.

PROCESS: I decided to use complementary due to her sword and herclothing. I attempted to shoot a high contrast photo of a small figurine using one of my lamps in my room. I edited the photousing levels, sharpness, saturation, color balance, selective color, color replacement, smudging, and a heavy use of the clone stamp tool. I used the selective color and the color replacement tool to

change the color of the inside of her cape and her eyes. I thenchanged the layering and using the eraser tool to make her swordand her elbow appear above the text. I made sure to use the same font for the heading that was in the game she was in. I then used the sharpening tool to make her face pop a little more and used the smudging tool to decrease the level of detail on her body. Iadded a second orange cross in the background to have an illusionof depth, and I lastly added the swatches of the top left corner.

     L   O   G   O   S   DESCRIPTION: A Logo for a Game store. PROGRAMS USED: Adobe Illustrator

     DATE: February 21, 2016

    COURSE: COMM 130-04

    INSTRUCTOR: Sister LeFevre

OBJECTIVES: · Create three completely different, original logos to fita company or personal image that will appeal to the audience. · Market research: gather opinions from at least tenpeople about which logo appeals most to them. · Use only the Illustrator tools to create and draw your

logos. · Refine one logo with variations for color

PROCESS: These Logos were actually pretty fun to draw. I took apicture of a real SNES controller I found on the web and used the Curvature and Elliptical tool to trace over the image. I then added the wire and plug while trying to make it sort of look like the Nintendo Logo using the rectangle and curvature tool. I then added in the actual colors for the buttons on thecontroller. Once that was finished I searched the web for a good retro video game font and then decided I needed a modern font as well to match my audience, since I have the retro font for retro

games, the SNES controller for post modern games. I made the ROFL larger to add contrast and to make the name of the store stand out more.

DESCRIPTION: This is a webpage Idesigned showcasing a Logo I designed

     PROGRAMS USED: Notepad++

     DATE: March 13, 2016

    COURSE: COMM 130-04

    INSTRUCTOR: Sister LeFevre

OBJECTIVES:· Make and image 300 – 500 pixels long and as a .PNG · Write content to describe the process of creating your logoand how it appeals to a target audience. · Acquire a working knowledge of HTML. · Acquire a working knowledge of CSS. · Identify hex colors to match logo.

PROCESS: I first made the HTML and then created a CSS file and linked it to the HTML. I got the columns and boxes roughly to the position I wanted them to be and then added borders around them to make them have a video game look to them. I placed thecolumns and boxes in a way that they would look like they came from an RPG (Role Playing Game). I then added the colors toeach individual box, using the same colors and position of saidcolors as the SNES controller, I previously saved these colors on Photoshop just in case. I then scaled them using the padding and

margin rules to get them to the desired shape and size (this was very difficult since changing one changes them all). I then added the Verdana font to the entire document, and made the text color white on all except the bottom box. I then added a design behind my logo to add some variety to it so that the red and yellow wont stick out too much. I then added in the text into HTML this wasa huge mistake since after I added the text the boxes changedcompletely and I had to redo the padding and margin rules. I thenincreased the line height and bolded the titles

     F   L   I   E   R      A   D   DESCRIPTION: This is a black and white flier promoting a Graduate Leadership Conference.

     PROGRAMS USED: InDesign

     DATE: January 24, 2016

    COURSE: COMM 130-04

    INSTRUCTOR: Sister LeFevre

OBJECTIVES:· Apply design principles and use appropriate typography. · Use basic InDesign skills to improve basic flier layout. · Retrieve image and logo from links on this page. · Create a project folder with image, logo and InDesigndocument to keep links in InDesign intact.

PROCESS: For this I used InDesign, for all of the work. I first started with the Image, I thought that the first thing that willcatch someone’s eye is the image. After seeing this image in the list given I knew that he had to be looking at the title. I endedup making the Title tilted in the shape of his face to make adecent line out if it, the wooden paneling in the background helped a lot too. I used contrast for the body text because thepicture on top would of drawn too much focus away from the text. So I used a light gray box with shadows on top of a dark gray

surface, making the body pop and add more focus to it. I was given the logo, image and text for this image.
