Needed: A Rotarian to head the Rotary Group Exchange (GSE) team to District 1750 located in the regions of Bourgogne (Burgundy) and Champagne, France. For information, contact Bets Anderson at [email protected].
The Huntsville Rotary Club met in the Community Room of West Hill Mall with a dull roar of HowyDoYaDo and back slapping. Ol' Moneybags, Walter Bennett, of First National Bank led the prayer and pledge. Walter is the new president of SHSU Alumni. The Most Reverend President Jon Volkmer dispensed with the usual formalities to proceed directly to the program. Under the direction of "Noted" musician, Norman Ward, Huntsville Mens". Choir serenaded the group with a medley of Chirstmas Carols which brought tears of joy to the grumpiest old scrooges in the club. Past President Greg Gathright sang a tenor solo in Gloria to little Jesus Boy. His performance would have made Pavarotti jealous. Rotarian Ward turned thumbs down on a suggestion that Huntsville Rotary for its own chorus. The suggestion caused Rotarian Gary Hood, also a member of the Mens' Chorus, to choke on his food. Cynthia Cross accompanied the chorus on the piano. Our visiting Rotarian was Kyle Smith of the Elcampo Rotary Club who has no less than a five year perfect attendance record. Rotary guests of Members were: Patsy Ann Reed guest of Rotarian Dennis Reed; Patsy Kavanagh guest of Rotarian Dee Everett sponsored Rick Mason. Rotarian Laura Floyd brought Ricky Floyd, by the scruff of the neck. Bob Barragan's, guests were Amy Victor and Nita Shipman. Rotarian Paul Loefller's guest was Krysta Baldys. Rotarian Buddy Aber of KSAM asked Rotarians to support Make Something Happen by providing cash and canned goods as well as toys for needy families this Christmas. Past President and Past District Governor Dan Davis indoctrinated new members. Rotarian Andy Graves of Sam Houston Funeral Home introduced Newly minted Rotarian Luke Gustafson, manager of Brookshire Brothers. he unabashedly recommended that Rotarians buying food for Buddy Aber's charity program would buy the food at cost. Andy Graves commented that, unlike Luke, he has no unhappy customers before digging himself in too deeply. Our other young new member was an old member but only in terms of Rotary service. Rotarian Ann Wolford, manager of public relations for Huntsville Memorial Hospital, is president-elect of Woodlands Rotary. Rotarian and former mayor Bill Green received a Life Time Achievement Award from Rotary. Rotarian and president-elect Rhonda Ellisor failed to win the $1000 award, leaving more money for needy children, but did draw a black card to win $20. President Jon Volkmer closed with recitation of the Four Way Test reminding Rotarians to be fair, friendly and charitable in all their dealings.

Did you know – the lawyer that was shot by the vice-president appears on the ten-dollar bill? No, not Cheney – it was Alexander Hamilton fatally wounded by Aaron Burr in a duel in 1804. Hamilton’s picture, of course appears on the ten-spot.
