least common multiple (LCM): the least multiple, other than 0, common to sets of multiplesmultiples of 2: 2, 4, 6, 8, 10multiples of 3: 3, 6, 9, 12, 15The LCM of 2 and 3 is 6.
greatest common factor (GCF): the greatest number that is a common factor of two or more numbers
simplest form: the form of a fraction when the GCF of its numerator and denominator is 1
least common denominator (LCD): the least number that is a multiple of the denominators of two or more fractions
Vocabulary
Dear Family,
Today my class started the Fractions and Decimals chapter. I will learn how
to find the Greatest Common Factor and the Least Common Multiple. I will
also learn how to compare and simplify fractions and how to write them as a
decimal. Below are my vocabulary words for the chapter.
p.s. Look on the back of this letter to find activities we can do at home or in
the car. There is also a list of books for us to read.

• Give your student the measuring cups. Point out the different size measurements found on each cup.
• Write all of the sizes on a sheet of paper.• Find the least common denominator (LCD) for
all of the measurement sizes and find equivalent fractions with that LCD for each measure.• Order the sizes from least to greatest and arrange the measuring cups accordingly.• Write at least three more equivalent fractions for each size measurement.
At Home ActivityMaterials: measuring cups with fractional measurements labeled, pencil, paper
Travel TalkWhile driving in the car, instruct your student to look for whole numbers in various places and name all of its factors. Have students compare the factors of two numbers to find the greatest common factor.

Vocabulario
Estimada familia:
Aprenderé a
