Summary: The paper deals with and clarifies the problems of upbringing in a contem-porary family, dilemmas and explanations surrounding this issue. A family is viewed as one of the oldest and most significant basic cells of the human society. It changes and develops and the life in it is constantly being improved in accordance with the relevant social changes and the family organization and functioning. In that view, the important functions of a contemporary family are considered, with the emphasis on the problems regarding fulfilling its upbringing function. The centre of this consideration revolves around determining the importance and upbringing effects of good interpersonal rela-tions in a family, especially between parents and children. The characteristics of the three basic styles in this area have been determined and the advantages of the demo-cratic style have been pointed out. Additionally, the common problems of the upbring-ing influence of parents on children in general have been pointed out, especially due to the authoritarian and permissive styles. The possibilities, directions, modes, means, etc. for solving the upbringing issues in a contemporary family have been identified.
