The Value of ‘COMPASSION’

jawans assisting tired legs of stranded pilgrims is still fresh in our minds. While ‘Mission Rescue and Recovery’ were at its peak, power hungry politicians were once again playing their  ‘vote bank’ politics…. The need of the hour  is to put aside our political agenda and to gather our resources and reach out in compassion to those who need our assistance.  What happened in Uttarakhand could have happened here in Mumbai too… WE CAN HELP. REACH OUT in compassion!

Challenge your students to take up the call to REACH OUT IN COMPASSION.

Get  connected with NGOs and  various  volunteer groups  that are  reaching out  to

MAKE A DIFFERENCE.

Create an ‘Uttarakhand Fund’ in your school by inviting your students to make small

sacrifices and contribute to the fund. Make every Rupee count!

Raise awareness about the plight of people who have lost everything, from loved ones to property.  Today, it is them; tomorrow it could be us.  Over 65,000 children are affected in the floods… begin with www.savethechildren.in/uttarakhandflood

This month’s ‘Value for the Yatra’ focuses on the Value of Compassion.  Why? … Isn’t PITY good enough? Nobody needs your pity; its compassion that soothes the troubled heart.  Pity dehumanizes, Compassion doesn’t.

Northern India has faced the brunt of this year’s advanced monsoons. Pictures of a devastated Uttarakhand State, with its teeming thousands of stranded pilgrims, crumbling buildings washing away along  river beds, floating bodies, broken bridges and landslide mountain sides, and braving

What is your COMPASSION QUOTIENT (CQ)?

26/11—Mumbai was under  siege,  terror  struck once  again.  In  an ordinary  situation, where  survival  is  the only

instinct, why did the nearly 600 staff of the Oberoi Hotel stay on? Why did they make every effort, even at the cost

of their own personal lives, to reach out to their guests?

26/6—Uttarakhand was facing  its greatest natural calamity. Thousand dead, sixty thousand pilgrims still stranded

and with inclement weather still pounding the hills and valleys, brave jawans still risked their lives to lend a helping

hand.  In the midst of all this, an IAH chopper MI‐17 V‐5 crashed in Dehradun taking 19 gallant lives. And yet, the

Rescue Operations went on! In such situations, it’s the COMPASSION QUOTIENT that transcends one to a  different

plane of living and meaning contribution.  Compassion is not a matter of head; it is a mater of heart!

So what is

COMPASSION

QUOTIENT (CQ)?

COMPASSIONATE QUOTIENT  NEVER  RARELY  SOMETIMES  OFTEN  ALWAYS

1. When someone is suffering, my first

response is to reach out and help.

2. I volunteer willingly in assisting senior

citizens in whatever way is needed.

3. I make it a point each day, to reach out to a

lonely friend, by a kind word or gesture.

4. When I watch the news channels, my heart

reaches out in compassion to those in need.

5. When it comes to treating myself compas‐

sionately, I really don’t care.

6. It takes courage to be compassionate, and

7. My world is better because I chose to be

8. Compassion is a spiritual fruit I need to

Embrace Values: Enrich Lives

After a gruesome summer, the MONSOONS are here.....

TAKE CARE.. Don’t forget the health concerns it brings

along. Malaria is on the increase, and so is Dengue!

Getting WET in the rain is so much fun...BUT it isn’t going

to help you… with it comes the red flagged scare of

falling prey to many monsoon related diseases. ….

Keep your body warm! Care for your health...

BE AWARE..THIS MONSOON SEASON.. If you are a

regular outdoor junk food eater then beware of infec‐

tions through food and water that lead to typhoid and

cholera. The common cold too can out to be a real

headache due to the damp and humid weather.

Never eat raw vegetables until it is well cooked..

Drink clean water. Don’t eat stale food!

Play well during the Monsoons… but keep your body from getting

wet…

Avoid slipper grounds and floors to avoid breaking your bones !

Keep your head always dry..wipe yourself quickly.

Avoid swimming in unknown waters! It could be dangerous.

Good Health

The Value of Balanced Diets

The Value of Sports & Exercise

DAILY EXERCISE

Embrace Values: Enrich Lives

Sleeping is never an act of laziness! Sleep SMART..

Your body is not a machine...it needs to slow down and

relax. You need a minimum of 8 hours of good sleep.

Cultivate the value of Power Naps ...Power Naps boosts

your memory, cognitive skills, creativity, and energy levels.

Sleep well and rise refreshed... avoid late night SMSs, chats

You have one life to live.. live it healthily!

Make friends with a clean environment. Start in your own

kitchen, bathroom and living room.

Check for stagnant water in flowerpots, bowls,

tanks...Don’t provide breeding grounds for the

dangerous mosquitoes.

Dispose your garbage periodically!

In a rat race, if you win; you are still a rat!

Treat life lovingly… stop to admire the summer skies,

the golden sunrise or sunset. Breath deeply and

rhythmically.

Life is a journey you need to enjoy, not a destination

you need to reach ahead of time. SLOW DOWN..even

in your eating habits.

We live in a world of SPEED… Speed KILLS…

When you are sick, TAKE REST.  Your body needs it.

The Value of

Hygienic Environs

The Value of

Rhythmic Breathing

Purify your cells..Breath in deeply. Oxygen is there

for the asking...don’t limit your breathing process to

a few inconsistent inhaling moments…

Breathing deeply also calms you down…. Why stress

yourself out?  Breath in deeply to a

count of five.. and

then exhale.. develop

the skill of rhythmic

  breathing.

It gives you more life!
