•traditional day for lovers in many countries;

•many people give cards, letters, flowers, chocolate or presents to their spouse or partner.

•Lupercus: god of crops and fertility

• Women put their names on a paper in a big jar

• Each men drew a paper and spend the festival dancing with the woman he picked

•in the 3rd century A.D. the Roman Emperor Claudius II forbade marriages

•Valentine was a Christian priest that performed marriages in secret

•for this reason he was caught and imprisoned

• while in prison he fell in love with the jailer’s blind daughter

• with his abilities he cured her blindness

• before dying he sent her a letter signed ‘From your Valentine’ • he died on February 14th
