Celia Hey! I brought a chocolate pie! My maid, Minny, made it.
Woman at party She's in the bushes.

Celia They made me stand there like I was the vacuum salesman. Why, Minny?
Minny
Because they know about you getting knocked up by Mr. Johnny. Mad you married one of their mens. And especially since Miss Hilly and Mr. Johnny had just broke up, too.
Celia So Hilly probably thinks that I was fooling around with Johnny when they were still going steady.
Minny Mmm hmm. And Missus Walters always said Miss Hilly still sweet on Mr. Johnny, too.
Celia No wonder! They don't hate me. They hate what they think I did.
Minny They hate you 'cause they think you white trash.

Celia
I'm just going to have to tell Hilly I ain't no boyfriend stealer. In fact, I'll tell her Friday night at the benefit.
Minny You don't need to be going to that benefit, Miss Celia. Did you hear me? Now you just stay home.
Hilly So... Nobody wanted to hire a sass-mouthing, thieving nigra. Did they? Pie's as good as always, Minny.
Minny I'm glad you like it.

Hilly What do you put in here that makes it taste so good?
Minny
That good vanilla from Mexico... and something else real special. No, no, no, Missus Walters. That's Miss Hilly's special pie.

Hilly What'd you say?
Minny I said, "Eat... my... shit."
Celia Have you lost your mind?
Minny No, ma'am, but you about to, 'cause you just did.

ELLE Definitely. I love him.

PROFESSOR CALLAHAN
I should warn you that in addition to competing against each other for the top grade in this class, you will also be competing for one of my firm's highly coveted four internship spots next year where you will get to assist on actual cases. Let the bloodbath begin. Now, let's commence with our usual torture. Ms. Woods, would you rather have a client who committed a crime malum in se or malum prohibitum?
ELLE Neither.
PROFESSOR CALLAHAN
And why is that?
ELLE I would rather have a client who's innocent.
PROFESSOR CALLAHAN
Dare to dream, Ms. Woods. Ms. Kensington, which would you prefer?
VIVIAN KENSINGTO
Malum prohibitum. Because then the client would have committed a regulatory infraction as opposed to a dangerous crime.
PROFESSOR CALLAHAN
Well done, Ms. Kensington. You've obviously done your homework. Now let us look at malum prohibitum a little more closely. It has been said-- Yes, Ms. Woods?
ELLE I changed my mind. I'd pick the dangerous one 'cause I'm not afraid of a challenge.
Guys
Who is that? Wow. Can she play? - Hi! Get outta here.
ELLE Hi, everybody.
WARNER Elle, what are you doing here? Elle,
ELLE I've come to join your study group. Look, I brought sustenance. Who's first?
VIVIAN Our group is full.
ELLE Is this like an RSVP thing?
Mean Girl No. It's like a smart people thing. And as Viv said, we're full.
WARNER Come on, guys, we can make room for one more.
VIVIAN We've already assigned the outlines. The answer is no.
ELLE Oh, OK. I'll just leave, then. Bye.
ENID Hey, maybe there's, like, a sorority you could, like, join instead, like?
ELLE You know, if you had come to a rush party, I would have at least been nice to you.
ENID Is that before you voted against me and then called me a dyke behind my back?
ELLE I don't use that word. You must have heard it from Vivian.

Unit1. Bold Women
Dialog
A This week we’re talking about movies with bold women. Which did you like better, Legally Blond, or The Help?
B Well, it’s kind of hard to pick one because they’re so different from each other. Obviously The Help deals with a more serious issue, but I love it because it’s got so much humor as well. What about you?
A I’m a big fan of Legally Blond because I always wanted to be a lawyer.
B No wonder!
A What do you mean?
B Well, you’re so argumentative.
A No I’m not.
B See what I mean? I think you could have been a great lawyer.
Dialog
A No, I wasn’t up for the challenge.
B Actually, I think you could still do it. You’re not too old, and you’re really smart. Dare to dream!
A Well, I’m not so sure, but thanks. Let’s get back to our topic. What’s another movie about bold women?
B Did you ever see Knocked Up?
A Of course! It was huge Hollywood hit about two people who fool around with each other, and then woman ends up pregnant.
B Right. And then the woman decides she doesn’t care if she’s single or not- she can raise the baby on her own. That’s pretty bold.
A Okay, I can see what you mean. I sure as hell wouldn’t want to raise a baby on my own, so that does take a lot of courage. Do you have a movie recommendation for me about bold women?
Dialog
B Well… let’s see. There was a movie in the 90s about three women who had been dumped by their husbands for younger models, and I thought that was a good depiction of bold women.
A Oh, you must be talking about The First Wives Club.
B Yes, indeed. I particularly liked Bette Midler’s character because she was such a sass-mouth.
A Yeah, she was funny, but my favorite was Diane Keaton.
B I love her, too. She’s great in everything.
A All this talk about movies is making me crave popcorn. You want to go grab some sustenance?
B Sure, let’s go!
