Sugi. 金継ぎ Sugi is an idea that was born with the empowerment of people missing a forearm as a main goal. The name Sugi comes from the Japanese word ‘Kintsugi’, which means as much as “golden con- nection”. The Sugi prosthesis symbolizes this Japanese concept by emphasizing the arm and making is physically stronger. With sugi, the wearer flaunts their difference not as a deviance, but a trait that makes them exceptional and unique. Kintsugi is veel meer dan deze verbinding alleen, in The modularity of Sugi makes it possible to add other functions and additional components that are espe- cially devised to solve a certain problem people might encounter in daily life when missing a forearm. But it is still mainly focused on empowerment and has the ability to offer help, while it is definitely not a re- quirement, since many people find their own way of going about things and don’t need any help from a prosthesis. The Sugi Bracelet aims to radiate power and fearlessness. This is achieved by its dynamic shape and high-quality ma- terials that make it long-lasting and robust. The design is based on the main muscle groups in the arm, giving the shape a very natural yet modern appearance. This also en- sures a comfortable wear without chafing or restriction of natural movement. The Sugi Bracelet is the basic piece, mainly focused on look and feel. The Sugi Bracelet consists of two parts, an upper arm ring that always stays on and a lower arm piece that is exchangeable. This lower arm piece can be replaced by other components that are more functional, such as a steering help. This offers the wearer more reach and control in the car. It can be used to hold the wheel, use the indicators, etc. The modules are easy to swap and can be replaced in just a few seconds. Sugi can also be personalized as it comes in different colours and sizes. Kintsugi is a Japanese artform of repairing broken ceram- ics with gold. They use the melted gold to glue the differ- ent parts together, creating a unique piece in the pro- cess, that is even more valuable than it was before it was broken.
