3All About North America

There was a real buzz around the US stands at World Travel Marketlast year.

An increase in airlift to a number of destinations in the US includingCalifornia and Florida has really given tourist boards and tour operators a boost for 2016. It means they have a lot to talk about and all thisexcitement is reflected in their expanded programmes for 2016Along with the new flights, there has been a considerable build-up

around a big anniversary for the States. The US is celebrating the 100th anniversary of its National Parks

Service, and there are a number of events and celebrations plannedthroughout the year. Operators are making the most of these celebrations with new tours that

are encouraging visitors to see these incredible parks in a different light. We focus on some trips have been added to coincide with this anniversary

year in our Luxury Holidays focus (pages 7-8).The definition of luxury holidays has changed over recent years, and in this

feature, I have caught up with operators to find out what defines luxury thesedays and how they are meeting their clients ever-changing expectations. Our What’s New section includes updates from operators about changes

to their programmes, while the two-page Shopping feature reflects on the vastnumber of retail destinations across the pond. While there are the traditional big city shopping breaks, destinations such as

Florida, Texas and Minnesota deliver a big bang for your buck if you arelooking to make considerable savings, with some outlet centres offeringdiscounts of up to 70% on UK prices. And there is so much more to these shopping centres than just retail

therapy. One in particular – Mall of America – lays claim to having theworld’s largest indoor theme park, so you can encourage your clients totake the whole family. In this year’s supplement, there is a Destination Focus on Florida, and

the new hotels and theme park attractions emerging over the next fewmonths. The Sunshine State is benefitting from a significant increase inflights from the UK and the state’s tourism chiefs are optimistic of anincrease in UK visitors in 2016.Sue Marshall, commercial director, for Visit Florida UK and Ireland, said that

Brits are still flocking to the traditionally popular destinations in the State.“Central Florida, including Orlando and Kissimmee, remain favourite

destinations with UK travellers, which is hardly surprising given they are hometo the world's best theme parks,” says Marshall.“Repeat visitors are increasingly renting cars and exploring other parts of

the state, discovering our fabulous beaches and smaller communities.”With so much happening across the pond this year, make sure you don’t

miss out by making the most of your All About North America supplement.

The heat is on

The Sunshine State has always been a big hit with us Brits, flocking to itsshores every year to lap up its

theme park offerings and indulge in itsintoxicating beach life.Colin Brodie, director of Visit Florida UK

consumer, shared-brand campaign in theUK. Florida worked with 13 tradepartners, including BA, Thomas Cook andHertz on a month-long, London-wide'Love, Florida' campaign, during which

'moments of sunshine' were brought to theCapital to help Londoners dispel theJanuary blues.”And all of this all seems to be paying off

with the tourist office predicting that UKvisitor figures are likely to hit 1.7 million bythe end of this year; international visitorsfigures for 2015 hit 105 million. So, here is a lowdown on what’s

happening across the Sunshine State this year.

serpent before launching into the ride. The first third of the ride will face

forward, then it will spin riders around toface backward. And in the finale, the carwill spin freely. The coaster carries riders over into the

rest of the Egypt section, with the trackslithering over and under nearby elementssuch as Montu, the park's railroad and the sidewalk. While visitors are in the queue to go on

the Cobra’s Curse, they will be able tomeet some of the world’s most notorious snake species, which park bossessay will naturally fuel guests’ adrenaline.“The snake exhibit at Cobra’s Curse will

allow us to combine the best of whatBusch Gardens has to offer – animals andthrill rides,” says Jeff Andrews,vice-president, zoological operations at
