Transcript of TRAILING
Your Coursework:You have 5 minutes to prepare you notes ready to feedback to the rest of the group what your interest is and what texts you
have found so far...
TRAILING
• Your essays will need to include information on the following:
• T – Technology• R - Representation• A - Audience• I - Ideology• L - Language• I - Institution• N - Narrative• G - Genre
Technology
Think about how conventional technology has in the past generally created texts that copy the dominant codes and conventions of the genre
Representation
Who or what is represented in your text(s)? How has this been conveyed? etc
Audience
• Who is the audience for your text(s)?
Ideology
What ‘values’ and beliefs seem to the dominant ones in the text(s) you have chosen
Language
Quite literally look at which words are used. Look also of the language of camera angles, lighting, cropping – how has the construction of an image made us ‘read’ a particular image – look at the construction of meaning.
Institution
Have a look to see who owns the publications/production companies etc. What do you know about them? Google what else they own – how is this relevant?
Narrative
What story does your text(s) tell? How is this constructed?
Genre
Be able to define the dominant codes and conventions within the media text(s) that you have selected aimed at the target audience.
