Gadhafi welcome in African countryA school headmas-
ter looked slightlymore nervous whenasked if he wouldopen his home toGadhafi but arguedMali had long benefit-ed from the maverickleader’s largesse andcould not leave himout in the cold.
“I agree to wel-come Gadhafi. We arenot ungrateful people.
He opened his walletto us Africans. Todayhe is experiencing dif-ficult times, weshould not forsakehim,” he said.
Gadhafi’s where-abouts remained un-known, but the Alge-rian government saidthat his wife andthree children hadfled Libya to Algeria, firm evidence that the
longtime leader hadlost his grip on hiscountry.
Libyan rebels saidthat another Gadhafison, elite militarycommander Khamis, was probably killed inbattle on Saturdaynear the town ofTarhouna, 80 kilome-ters southeast of theLibyan capital ofTripoli. Reuters
GAO, Mali—Moammar Gadhafi’s circleof friends on the international sceneis fast shrinking but in the Maliantown of Gao, residents say they wouldbe happy to welcome the fugitiveLibyan leader.
“Let Gadhafi comehere. We will offerhim bed and board,”said a chemist in Gao,the impoverished Sa-helian country’s maineastern hub.

Zombadings 1: Patayin sa Shokotsi RemingtonDirected by Jade Castro
H UWAG matakot,maki-bakla. To-day is National
Award! Kungbakit, watch na lang.
Kapansin-pansin ang consis-tent tone sa direction. Sa kabilang tema nito, the film nevergoes unnecessarily over-the-top.Marami na ang nakapanood at
nagsabing Martin Escudero is arevelation in this movie. What'snot being pointed out often isthat he's an effective comedian.Escudero suavely conveys Rem-ington's transformation frombruskong boylet to twinklingbeki in a few scenes and the re-sults are hilarious.
As far as defining the genreof Zombadings, it's really moreof a comedy and not exactlyhorror-comedy dahil maliit langna elemento ng kwento anghorror. I point this out dahil bi-hira ang horror-comedy sub-genre sa Philippine cinema, nakung sakali ay naging isangmalaking contribution sana ngpelikula. But that doesn't takeaway the fact that this is asmartly-made, very funny come-dy.
Zombadings pre-sents the same discoursethrough this comedy. Pahapyawna dadaanan nito ang mgaisyung nature vs. nurture, stereotyping, patriarchy at patifluidity of gender — all consis-tently non-judgmental excepttowards one: that non-accep-tance and intolerance is the en-emy.
Ganito rin ang naging ap-proach ng grupo nang kanilangiproduce ang Ang Pagdadalagani Maximo Oliveros noong 2005para sa Cinemalaya (Maxi isreferenced in one of Reming-ton's looks).
It's so easy to heap hyperboleonto Filipino films like Zombad-ings which deserve all the at-tention they should get, kasimas madalas tayong nakaka-panood ng mga de-numerongpelikulang kaydaling malimu-tan. Kaydaling sabihin na,‘Panalo ang Zombadings, win-ner!’ — pero ang tunay na win-ner dito ay ang audience.
Poems and reflections by Michael JacksonBy Dolly Anne Carvajal
AS A true-blue Michael Jacksonfanatic, allow me to payhomage to the late great King ofPop in celebration of his birth-day(Aug. 29, 1958). MJ wouldhave been 53 on Monday.
Among all my MJ memora-bilia, I treasure his book Danc-ing the Dream (Poems and Reflec-tions by Michael Jackson) themost. MJ dedicated the book tohis mother, Katherine, and it hasa foreword by his best friend,Elizabeth Taylor. It also contains100 glossy photographs. Thebook is published by Doubledayin 1992 and reissued byTransworld in 2008 after MJ’sdeath).
It’s a rare and priceless find.I’ve read the book over and overagain. It gains deeper signifi-cance each time. Every MJdiehard should have one. For alegend like MJ who was oftenjudged and misunderstood, thebook scratches beyond the sur-face and reveals treasures kept
deep in MJ’s big and soft heart. To give you a glimpse of MJ’s
inner workings, here are someexcerpts from Dancing theDream.
On behalf of all the MJ fans, happy birthday to our foreveridol! Thank you for being bornand changing our world withyour music. Brilliance is a giftyou were born with and love isa gift you left us all with.
‘Dancing the dream’Michael Jackson, in his own
words:“Consciousness expresses it-
self through creation. Thisworld we live in is the dance ofthe creator. Dancers come andgo in the twinkling of an eyebut the dance lives on.
“On many an occasion whenI’m dancing, I’ve felt touched bysomething sacred. In those mo-ments, I’ve felt my spirit soarand become one with every-thing that exists.
“I become the stars and themoon. I become the lover andthe beloved. I become the victor
and the vanquished. I becomethe master and the slave. I be-come the singer and the song.
“I become the knower andthe known. I keep on dancingand then, it is the eternal danceof creation. The creator and cre-ation merge into one wholenessof joy.
“I keep on dancing... anddancing, until there is only... thedance.”

The child remained in a stateof grace/He wasn’t confined intime or place/In Technicolordreams, he frolicked andplayed/While acting his part, inEternity he stayed
Soothsayers came and for-tunes were told/Some werevehement, others werebold/In denouncing this child, this perplexing creature/Withthe rest of the world heshared no feature/Is he real?He is so strange/His unpre-dictable nature knows norange/He puzzles us so, is hestraight?/What’s his destiny? What’s his fate?
And while they whisperedand conspired/Through endlessrumors to get him tired/To killhis wonder, trample himnear/Burn his courage, fuel hisfear/The child remained justsimple, sincere
