Για τις ανάγκες αυτού του τεύχους βρέθηκα στα εγκαίνια του Io-nian Boat Assistance προκειμένου να συνομιλήσω με τον Kelvin και να δώ απο κοντά τα καινούργια Karnic Boats και τα Ribeye ribs που έχουν προς πώληση. Ο Angus και η Emily συμπλήρωσαν την στήλη μας Tourist Profi le κατά την διάρκεια του διαλλείματος τους απο το γουιντσέρφινγκ στο club vass.Στην δημοφιλή στήλη μας Looking for Love έχουμε τον αγαπητό μας JB,έναν ακόμη υποψήφιο απο την Neilson(αφού σκέφτομαι να αλλάξω όνομα στην στήλη).Χρειαζόμαστε όμως και μερικές γυναικείες υποψηφιότητες γι’αυτό λοιπόν μην φοβάστε και στείλτε ένα e-mail.Ενα απο τα αγόρια της στήλης μας Local Profi le βρήκε το κορίτσι του μέσω αυτής της στήλης.....ανυπομονούμε να δούμε πως θα πάει.!

Τελικα ενέδωσα και συμμετείχα στην στήλη Local Profi le.Ο κόσμος μου ζητούσε να το κάνω καθώς έπρεπε να γνωρίσουν καλύτερα το πρόσωπο που φτιάχνει αυτή την εφημερίδα.Απλώς προσπαθώ να προβάλλω αυτό το πανέμορφο νησί και ελπίζω να σας αρέσει το αποτέλεσμα.Επίσης περιμένω για περισσότερες συμμετοχές για την στήλη” μυστήριοι αναγνώστες”.Εχεται κάποια ενδιαφέρουσα δραστηριότητα ή πήγατε κάπου όμορφα στο νησί?Συμμετάσχεται ελεύθερα και θα δείτε το άρθρο σας δημοσιευμένο στο επόμενο τεύχος.Τα στοιχεία επικοινωνίας είναι στο πίσω μέρος.______________________________________________________

This issue I met up with Kelvin from Ionian Boat Assistance at their open day to see the new Karnic Boats and Rib Eye ribs they have for sale. Angus and Emily completed our Tourist Profi le while enjoy-ing a break from windsurfi ng down in Club Vass. Our very popular Looking for Love is the wonderful JB, another candidate from Neil-son (I’m thinking about renaming it). We do need some women candidates so don’t be scared and drop me an email. One of our local profi le boys has found himself a lady via his profi le......looking forward to hearing how that turns out!

I have fi nally given in and done the local profi le. People have been asking me to do it as most of won’t know who is doing the paper. I am just trying to promote this wonderful little island and hoping your liking the result. I am also looking for more mystery review-ers. Sail Away, Sail Away, Sail Away....The sun is sparkling and dancing across the still blue water of the bay as we slip our lines and head out past Nidri on the 39 foot yacht we have chartered for a couple of days.

There are only so many moments in life which will stick with you for their perfect idyllicness, but as we unfurl the genoa in the gentle morning breeze, crack open a beer, and dance with our crazy 2 year old in the cockpit as we drift past the scattering of islands starbursting out on Nidri, I feel this may be one of them. And this is only the fi rst morning of our two day trip.

The Ionian Islands are one of the most popular cruising areas in Europe, if not the world, and it easy to see why. A myriad of lush green islands – from the famous Scorpios Island recently sold from the Onassis family, to the humble Thilia Island, little more than a hump of rock emerging from the sea – off er endless bays, coves and beaches to anchor off so you can enjoy your own private patch of paradise. Furthermore the generally gentle winds and calm seas give you the impression of sailing on a huge lake rather than open sea, making it perfect for the novice or more nervous sailor.

Our plan today is to sail through the Meganissi channel, stopping for lunch when the mood takes us – and heading on South to-wards Kefalonia and maybe an evening in Fiskardo before heading back to Lefk as the next day. With both sails out and the wind behind us it is not long before we are outside Rouda Bay (just North of Sivota) and decide to head in & drop the anchor for some lunch and a dip! The onboard fridge has chilled the drinks perfectly and we all tuck into a hamper of food that has been prepared for us by the Vliho Yacht Club – very lazy of us I know, but a real treat to not have to worry about grocery shopping before the trip and the tasty plates of food were well worth the extra money.

The afternoon sees more motoring than sailing, but with the children taking afternoon sleeps in their cabins, it is lovely and re-laxing and by late afternoon we are heading in to Fiskardo. The pretty harbour is busy as always, but we drop our anchor on the north side of the bay, taking a long line ashore to avoid the hoards around the quay area. The boys love their ride to shore in the tender and we are soon digging into ice-cream on the quayside before a nosey round the shops, dinner and bed (for the boys) - bottle of wine whilst chilling out in the cockpit for Mum & Dad!

The following day follows much of the same pattern in the opposite direction! This time lunch is spent anchored off Thilia Island just off Meganissi in a beautiful patch of turquoise sea which is just begging to be jumped in to, so we had to oblige! Then we catch the afternoon breeze to head back to base for early evening. Tired, salty and very very happy.

I would be a shame for anyone to come to this area of Greece and not experience some time exploring by boat. Although I am lucky enough to hold a skippers qualifi cation and can charter a boat ‘bareboat’ i.e. without a skipper, there are many local com-panies which off er sailing courses or your own private skipper to ‘chauff eur’ you around the best spots, for the novice or less ex-perienced. Σαλπάρω,σαλπάρω,σαλπάρω.......Ο ήλιος αστράφτει και αντανακλά στο γαλήνιο μπλέ της θάλασσας καθώς διασχίζουμε τον κόλπο του Νυδριού και απομακρυνόμαστε με το 39 ποδιών ιστιοπλοικό μας που ναυλώσαμε πριν λίγες μέρες.

Υπάρχουν αρκετές τέλειες ειδυλλιακές στιγμές στην ζωή που μας μένουν,αλλά καθώς ξετιλύγαμε τα πανιά μας στο απαλό πρωινό αεράκι,ανοίγωντας με θόρυβο την μπύρα μας,χορεύοντας με το τρελούτσικο δίχρονο μας στην θέση του οδηγού, περνώντας ανάμεσα απο τα διάσπαρτα νησάκια που κοσμούν το Νυδρί,ένιωσα ότι ίσως αυτή η στιγμή ήταν μια απο αυτές.Και αυτό είναι μόνο το πρώτο πρωινό του διήμερου ταξιδιού μας.

Τα Ιόνια νησιά είναι απο τους πιο δημοφιλής προορισμούς για κρουαζιέρα στην Ευρώπη,εάν όχι του κόσμου,και είναι εύκολο να καταλάβεις γιατί.Αναρρίθμητα,πλούσια σε πράσινο νησάκια-απο τον πασίγνωστο Σκορπιό,όπου πρόσφατα πουλήθηκε απο την οικογένεια Ωνάση,μέχρι το ταπεινό νησάκι Θηλειά,κάτι σαν ένα μικρό εξόγκωμα που αναδύεται απο την θάλασσα-προσφέρει ατελείωτους κόλπους,κολπίσκους και παραλίες για να αγκυροβολήσεις προκειμένου να χαρείς το δικό σου προσωπικό παραδεισένιο κομμάτι.Επιπλέον οι κατα γενική ομολογία ανάλαφροι άνεμοι και ήρεμες θάλασσες σου δίνουν την εντύπωση ότι κάνεις ιστιοπλοία πάνω σε μια τεράστια λίμνη παρά σε μια ναοιχτή θάλασσα,ιδανικό για αρχάριους και για ακόμη πιο νευρικούς ιστιοπλόους.

Το πλάνο μας σήμερα είναι να σαλπάρουμε μέσα απο το κανάλι του Μεγανησίιου,κάνοντας στάση για μεσημεριανό ανάλογα με την διάθεση-και τραβώντας Νότια προς Κεφαλονιά και ίσως περάσουμε το βράδυ στο Φισκάρδο μέχρι την επομένη όπου και επιστρέφουμε στην Λευκάδα.Και με τα δύο πανιά ανοιχτά και τον άνεμο πίσω μας σε ελάχιστο χρόνο φτάνουμε στον κόλπο της Ρούδας(Βόρεια των Συβότων) και αποφασίζουμε να κάνουμε στάση και να ρίξουμε άγκυρα για μεσημεριανό και για μια βουτιά!Το φορητό μας ψυγειάκι έχει παγώσει τέλεια τα ποτά μας και καταβροχθίζοντας συνάμα ένα καλάθι με φαγητά που είχε ετοιμάσει για εμάς το Vliho Yacht Club-τεμπελιάσαμε πολύ το ξέρω,αλλά είναι ένα αληθινό κέρασμα δίχως καμμιά έγνοια για ψώνια λαχανικών πριν το ταξίδι καθώς το γευστικό αυτό γεύμα άξιζε πραγματικά τα λεφτά του.

Το απόγευμα μοιάζει περισσότερο με οδήγηση παρά με ιστιοπλοία,αλλά με τα παιδιά να κοιμούντε στις καμπίνες τους,είναι υπέροχα και ξεκούραστα, και αργά το απόγευμα οδεύουμε προς Φισκάρδο.Το λιμανάκι του είναι όμορφο όπως πάντα ,αλλά αγκυροβολήσαμε στην βόρεια πλευρά του κόλπου,κετυθυνόμενοι προς την ακτή για να αποφύγουμε την κοσμοσυρροή γύρω απο την αποβάθρα.Τα αγόρια λατρεύουν την βόλτα τους στην ακτή με το φουσκωτό και σύντομα ¨βουτάμε¨ μέσα σε ένα παγωτό στην άκρη της αποβάθρας πριν απο την βόλτα μας γύρω στα μαγαζιά,δείπνο για εμάς και ύπνο για τα αγόρια-ένα μπουκάλι κρασί για την μαμά και τον μπαμπά όσο χαλαρώνουν έξω κοντά στην θέση του οδηγού !

Η επόμενη μέρα ακολουθεί την ίδια σχεδόν τακτική αλλά απο την άλλη πλευρά!Αυτή την φορά το μεσημεριανό το απολαύσαμε αγκυροβολημένοι στο καταγάλανο νησάκι Θηλειά όπου μοιάζει σαν να σε ικετεύει να βουτήξεις μέσα,οπότε έπρεπε και να υπακούσουμε!Υστερα πήραμε τον δρόμο του γυρισμού απολαμβάνοντας το απογευματινό αεράκι καθώς θέλαμε να νφτάσουμε πρίν σκοτεινιάσει.Κουρασμένοι,γεμάτοι αλάτι και πολύ πολύ χαρούμενοι..

Θα ήταν κρίμα για κάποιον που έρχεται σε αυτό το μέρος της Ελλάδος να μην του δοθεί η δυνατότητα να γευτεί μια πραγματική εξερεύνηση με σκάφος.Αν και αισθάνομαι αρκετά τυχερός που έχω δίπλωμα σκίπερ και μπορώ να κάνω ιστιοπλοία χωρίς οδηγό,υπάρχουν αρκετές μικρές εταιρείες που προσφέρουν μαθήματα ή ακόμη και τον δικό σας προσωπικό σκίπερ να σας “μεταφέρει”τριγύρω σε μερικά απο τα πιο όμορφα σήμεια.Για πολύ αλλά και για λιγότερο αρχάριους.Δείτε την διαφήμιση του “sail ionian”www.sailionian.com&”Day Sail Adventures”www.daysailgreece.gr σε αυτό το τεύχος,και της Neilson www.neilson.co.uk απέναντι απο το ξενοδοχείο Αθως στο Νυδρί.
