This is your opportunity to network and impress, so here’s our tips for getting the most out of the fair:

• First impressions really do count, so dress smartly and approach employers with a smile and positiveattitude.

• Introduce yourself, you might want to tell them a bit about your course and career ambitions and ask themthe questions you’ve prepared.

• Be confident about what you can offer. Think about your degree, any work experience and your range ofskills – how might these be relevant and useful for that company?

• If you are interested in a particular aspect of the company’s work, tell them. You’ll be able to get someinside knowledge that could be useful in your application or interview.

• Treat the fair as a first stage interview - recruiters will be seeking out impressive candidates and willremember those people who made an extra effort.

• Make notes after each discussion, including the names of anyone you speak to.• Keep your mobile on silent, or better still switch it off when you are talking to an employer.• Make sure you’ve got a copy of your CV ready so you’re not digging around in the bottom of your bag.

Improving CV and Job applications for Biomedical Scientists

The session will cover; a brief introduction to pathology and the role of the Institute of Biomedical Sciences (IBMS); current biomedical scientist (BMS) job vacancies and specifications within the region; an insight into the application and selection processes; the opportunity to ask advice on what to include on your application form and how to approach the interview.

Nicky Dean, an experienced Immigration and Human Rights Lawyer, will be talking about the routes open to you for working in the UK after your studies. Nicky has 17 years post qualification experience, the last 13 years exclusively in Immigration and Human Rights law. Her work includes the UK Government ‘s Points Based System for work and study, family settlement, European law, visit visas, Nationality and Asylum and Human Rights.

The Bradford Birth to 19 National Teaching School is an alliance of over 40 schools in Bradford, Kirklees and Calderdale who are working collaboratively to make a difference to the lives of children and young people in the region. Beanstalk reading helpers work one-to-one with children giving them their full attention and support to improve reading levels, increase confidence and inspire a lifetime love of reading. Each Beanstalk reading helper works with 3 children and sees each child for two thirty minute sessions each week for a year. The commitment and reliability of our reading helpers is an essential part of children’s success. In Yorkshire we work in Bradford and Leeds and are keen to recruit students and post-graduates of all disciplines who are able to commit to volunteering for 2 x 1.5 hours per week for a minimum of 12 months.
