The work of a masterThe legendary American trumpet manufacturer viNCENT BaCH has crafted two new masterpieces in the Stradivarius series:

the lacquered lR19043B and the silver-plated lR190s43B. Jazz trumpeters in particular have been impressed right from the start by the open and direct sound. For the first time at Vincent Bach a single-piece bell with a 5" diameter is being used on a Bb trumpet. The bell has been hammered by hand from bronze. The mouthpiece is the tried and tested Original Vincent Bach 3C.

Size mattersInstruments in the 06 series are among the most popular guitars in the RecoRD-ing King catalogue. The RJ-06 is the latest addition to the series, the largest yet with a jumbo body. A solid spruce top, mahogany back and sides and a short 24,75" scale all add up to a full warm tone. Decorations are discreet, which in itself is unusual for a jumbo. There is a simple triple ring around the sound hole and no fret inlays at all. All the effort has gone into creating an affordable guitar with a killer tone.

Lyrical assistance 1Even the best of us have an awkward moment when we forget song lyrics, and that never looks good on stage. Two years ago Levy’S launched the first guitar straps overprinted with song lyrics. The series continues to grow. For example there is now one for Hendrix fans, the mPJHL2. Six different songs are avail-able. The front of the strap is printed with the title and extracts of the song, and the complete licensed text is printed on the back. The straps are 2" wide. Innovative tradition 1 jr 002THe LoaR has built up a reputation as a specialist in hand-carved archtops. The new LH-319 archtop guitar adds to this reputation. It features maple back and sides and has a 16-inch body without a cutaway, reminiscent of pre-war instru-ments from the USA. The neck is also based on traditional designs with a large and distinct V profile. The choice of pickups is unusual however. The LH-319 comes with two P90s which, according to the manufacturer, have been carefully positioned for optimum performance.

with fitted Loxx brand strap locks. The mating piece for the guitar – a small ball that is attached to the guitar – and the necessary tool are included with the strap. The strap itself is made from coloured rayon webbing (brown, natural and black) and is 2" wide. The straps are adjustable to 60". The picture shows the MSSR80LX model.

The sheer size of such models gives them stage presence and are popular with rock and roll fans – after all Elvis played one. The excellent tone of the RJJ-116 comes from its AA quality solid Sitka spruce top and its mahogany back and sides. Care has gone into the detailing. There are vintage-style Grover tuners and other embellishments for a good clean look.

Levy’S offers these straps in seven dif-ferent patterns, all in vibrant colours. The mP23 model (pictured) is a good example. The straps are 1" wide and are adjustable up to 26". They are fitted with a plastic hook for attaching to the ukulele sound hole. Model MP22 is available with the same features but with a width of only 1/2".

Guitars and basses in stereo 5 uw 009Some electric guitars and basses have stereo outputs. On these instruments the different pickup signals are not routed to the same output, as on a normal electric guitar, but to two different channels.

A stereo cable is needed with a three-pole stereo jack plug at

one end and two mono jack plugs at the other. KLoTZ, the German cable manu-facturer, has opted once again for Neutrik connectors for its vario stereo guitar cable. These connectors have a slim and stable casing and tried and tested cable clamps. Klotz Cables uses two of its suc-cessful KIK cables for its Vario product.

Limited edition but affordableSigma only relatively recently returned to the market with its affordable acoustic guitars, and is already launching the first limited edition model. It is an all-solid dreadnought with Madagascar rosewood back and sides. The top is solid Adiron-dack spruce, which has an excellent repu-tation for sound projection. The 17.5” wide fretboard and the bridge are both made of ebony. The woods for the body are crafted according to precisely defined specifications to achieve the best pos-sible tone. The Sigma SDR-28mLe will be available for twelve months.

Testing, testing Most guitar-ists either know their amp tubes are work-ing, or know they are not. Knowing precisely how well they are working can save them money and save their sound. vHT have released Tube Tester 2 that checks the condition of a pair of tubes in the power stage during operation. Special adapters are plugged in between the amp and the tubes and connected to the VHT tester which then measures the cathode voltage. Among other things, the tester enables you to set the operating point of the tubes.

UlTRaSOne is showcasing two new closed-cup headphone models for professional applica-tions. The PRO model has been designed for sound engineers, and the DJ version for masters of the turntable. Both models are assembled by hand at the Ultrasone factory in Bavaria and are impres-sively robust. According to the manufacturer, they will withstand harsh everyday treatment in the studio, on stage or in a DJ booth. The sound transducers were developed in-house. Their decentralised arrange-ment within the ear cup, in keeping with the Ultrasone S-Logic patent, creates a pleasant spatial sound in reference qual-ity. Resolution is improved and sound engineers can better judge important fac-tors such as frequency response, relative volumes, depth of sound and the stereo panorama. ises in replicas of the RCA Type 44 ribbon microphone. Any change in the microphone designed by Harry F. Olsen in the 1930s has been regarded as sacriledge. Cloud 44-a is the result of the people at Cloud daring to wonder what Olson would have done had he been working with today’s resources. Cloud 44-A is an active ribbon mic that retains all the properties of the historic capsule but goes one better than

the original in terms of the electronics. A switchable high-pass filter has been integrated to compensate for over-emphasis of the bass arising from the proximity effect.

The app you need is called “Powered by Crown”. USBX is connected to an ac power supply and offers connections for up to eight Crown units with USB. There is therefore no longer any need for Ethernet connections for these amps – they can be controlled wirelessly from a smartphone. Wi-Fi is integrated so there is also no need for an additional external router. This translates into greater convenience, particularly for mobile applications, because setting up Ethernet cabling just for remote control-ling the amps is not everyone’s cup of tea! A “Wi-Fi in the amp rack” that listens to the sound engineer’s iPhone is far more convenient.

Si Performer is based on the Si Compact series but has almost twice the DSP performance, extended functionality and the capacity to mix up to 80 channels – on every model. Si Performer 2 offers 24 integrated analogue mic inputs and 8 line inputs,

while Performer 3 has the same 8 line inputs but 32 mic inputs.

There are also four effect returns for the

integrated effects. Two card slots provide

access to such things as CobraNet, AVIOM and

AES inputs. The sound scenes can also be used to retrieve lighting scenes, triggered if need be via external MIDI signals. Four light scene masters (A-D) are located on an ALT fader layer. With so many out-standing features events companies can get their employees to cover so many more activities. And all this extra function-ality does not come at the expense of audio performance: 4-band EQ, gate, compression and delay on every input channel, compression and delay on all outputs, and BSS graphic EQ on each bus output. And there is no fear of bottlenecks in processing power.

expanded its range of digital modulation cables. The sentinel series now

includes cables with 4, 8 and 16 pairs. Solid copper cores with a diameter of 0.57 mm ensure error-free and reliable data transfer. The KLOTZ shielding con-cept provides excellent protection from interference, with its triple shielding – each individual pair is wrapped in Al/PETP foil, and the multicore is protected by braid with a foil shield below that.

OPALine Line-ArrayDas Line-Array OPALine von On Point Audio besteht aus zwei Boxen mit sieben

Treibern und bildet ein Drei- Wege-System. Die Top-Box, das OPALine Vertical Array, ist eine passive Linienstrah- ler-Box mit 4 Stück 8"-Trei-bern und zwei Kompressi-onstreibern für die Wavegui-des. Der Subwoofer enthält einen 18"-Treiber und eine zweikanalige Endstufe mit 2 kW Spitzenleistung für bei-de Boxen. Der Linien-strahler deckt 90° horizontal und 40° vertikal ab. Er kann auch als

mit 800 Watt nenn-belastba-re Full-Range-Passivbox betrieben werden und zeichnet sich durch eine untere Grenzfrequenz von 80 Hz aus, wenn man eine Toleranz von ±3dB anlegt. Das OPALine-

System bedarf keinerlei externer Prozessoren um als Line-Array

zu fungieren.

On Point Audio OPALine line arrayThe OPALine line array from On Point Audio comprises two loudspeakers with seven drivers in a three-way system. The OPALine Vertical Array is a passive line array with 4 x 8" woofers and two tweet-ers for the waveguides. The subwoofer contains an 18" unit and a two-channel amp with a peak output of 2 kW for both loudspeakers. Coverage of the line array

is 90° horizontal and 40° vertical. It can also be operated as an 800 W full-range passive speaker system with a lower limit frequency of 80 Hz and a tolerance of ±3dB. The OPALine system does not need any external processors to function as a line array.

Verschleißfreudige Kompo-nenten lassen sich nun besser ersetzen, und mit der Version CC (Coiled Cable) steht auch eine Variante mit Spiralkabel zur Verfügung. Durch die vollständig neu konstruierten Tesla-Schallwandler wird ein fast verlustfreier magnetischer Fluss erzielt. Bei herkömmlichen dy-namischen Systemen sitzt der Magnet im Zentrum des Systems, was die mögliche Größe begrenzt. Beim Tesla-Prinzip windet sich der Magnet ringförmig um die Spule herum. Dies bewirkt, dass mehr Energie dorthin gelenkt wird, wo sie benö-tigt wird, nämlich direkt in den Luftspalt, der die Schwingspule umgibt. Da hinter dem Zentrum der Membrane kein Magnet-kern sitzt, verursachen die rückwärtig abgestrahl-ten Schallanteile keinen Druckstau.

Weatherproof full-range loudspeakers The “weatherproof” label covers a wide range of definitions. Conditions are rougher, for example, on the open deck of a cruise ship than for a permanent installation on dry land. One SySTeMS, the Tennessee-based specialist in weather-proof loudspeakers, offers four loud-speakers in its IM-w/Marine Systems range. The metal components for these units, including the grilles if required, are made of 316 grade stainless steel – in other words marine quality steel – instead of the more usual 304-grade steel. 316-grade steel is a chrome-nickel alloy that is impervious to salt water and other corrosive substances and does not pit at all. All the Marine models have white injection-moulded enclosures with a resin coating that is exceptionally weatherproof and resistant to discoloration. The rainproof three-layer loudspeaker grille is also white. Fixing ac-cessories are also available in 316-grade steel. The series comprises two-way units with one 8” or 12” speaker and units with two 8” or two 12” speakers.

CAM-P000L dient zur direkten Verbin-dung zwischen HD-Videokamera und CCU (Camera Control Unit) oder zum Anschluss an eine Wandbox oder einem Panel. Über zwei biegeresistente Single-Mode-Glasfasern nach ITU-T G.657A lei-tet das Kabel HD-Signale über sehr große Entfernungen, bis hin zu 4000 Metern. Im Kabel befinden sich außerdem vier Energieadern und zwei Leiter für Steuer-signale. Stress-resistantIn mobile applications camera cables are often exposed to enormous stress and have to transmit signals with complete reliability over large distances. KLOTZ A.I.S. offers robust, stable, ready-made fibre-optic cables that comply with the SMPTE311M standard. The CAM-P000L hybrid cable is used to make a direct connection between an HD video camera and a CCU (camera control unit) or for connecting to a wall box or panel. The cable transmits HD signals over very large distances of up to 4000 meters via two bend-resistant single-mode optical fibres in accordance with ITU-T G.657A. The cable also includes four power sup-ply wires and two conductors for control signals. A central insulated steel core gives the cable very high tensile strength. A copper braided shield increases stabil-ity and lateral compressive strength and also protects the cable from rodent at-tack. Thanks to the flexible heat-resistant PUR sheath the cable is ideal for outdoor applications.

Installation amps from CrownThe new amps from CROwn are im-pressively compact, several of which will fit in compact 2U racks. The dCi series consists of 12 models with rated outputs of 300 to 600 W per channel. The first number in the model name in-dicates the number of channels, the sec-ond the power rating per channel. The amps are also suitable for 100 and 70 V systems and can be operated into 2 ohm loads. All the power amps are controlled by the DriveCore IC chip which handles all the necessary audio processes with impressive energy efficiency yet is no larger than a postage stamp.

Customised 5 uw 002KLOTZ A.I.S. has developed the hybrid RCSB2d2P2 cable specifically to meet customer requirements. It combines two network connections with the specifica-tions of the RC5SB cable with two digital audio cables and a power supply cable. This universal multicore is at home in all audio network and DMX/lighting control applications. The two RC5SB cables have solid conductors with a diameter of 0.52 mm and low signal attenuation, enabling them to be used for network connections of up to 100 m. Their structure features a stabilising cross-shaped PE element for the four stranded cables. The data cables have foil screen-ing and high-coverage copper braiding.

mit Komponenten von MEyER sOund bestückt, darunter 235 Meyer-Aktivboxen. Rocky and Meyer Sound 5 jfc 023Rocky – The Musical features a large number of different acoustic environments. There are boxing scenes in the ring, then scenes in the changing room where the acoustics are characterised by early reflec-tions and where Rocky is hammering a punch bag – and each of these scenes has to create its own acoustic atmosphere, and this atmosphere has to be experienced from every seat in the theatre. Amptown Sound and Communications has therefore equipped the theatre with components from Meyer Sound, including 235 Meyer active loudspeakers. Four DVRAS modules create early reflections and reverb trails. In the show there are five different reverb times and three different reflection depths and reverb factors for the low frequencies – not to mention the different mixes. Sound engineer Andreas Hammerich points out that unlike the situation on Broadway, Stage Entertainment not only produces the show but also owns the theatre. This means that long-term investment can be made in the sound system and that the equipment for the current production can be intelligently combined with the house equipment.

Octamic XTC is a digital 19" mic preamp with 8 mic inputs. The device has a graphical TFT display for simple configuration of the 8 digitally controlled mic preamps. A MADI option enables the Octamic XTC to be integrated in digital audio networks. The wireless microphones in the VT and ST series from MIPRO are equipped with very small transmitters that are attached directly to the clip. The ST models have been designed for woodwind and brass instruments and are attached directly to the bell. A short swan-neck ensures the mic is positioned over the centre of the bell.
